really?
Really. Xhamster isn't an accurate representation of real life. Sorry about that.
I think it's probably fair to say that those with their profile set to 'nothing serious/not looking for a relationship' are wanting a good shagging and those with 'long-term/relationship' are probably wanting exactly that.

I've noticed there's a lot of fake female profiles on Zoosk. Usually aged about 32/33/34 and always have just 1 single pic of a very attractive girl but slightly blurry as if it's come from a webcam still. Always show slim/athletic build and a height of 5'4/5'5/5'6. The odd few lines of description is exactly the same on each profile!

I see that the carousel thing on POF has been designed specifically to extract more money from you too irked. You get a load of 'x wants to meet you!' alerts but they don't allow you to check them out without paying for a subscription. I've not paid yet but curiousity may eventually win me over and I'll probably regret it when I discover they're all BBW munters from the other end of the country hehe.

I found that when your saw that X wants to meet you, you could usually work it out - memorise the blurry photo and location and when you swipe through matches, the person usually comes up after 3-4 swipes.

Well, it did for me anyway biggrin

Hmm I don't get any images on POF. Just directs me to buy a subscription.

Emails that arrive just show this :

Dear x,

Someone wants to meet you! Click below to view their profile:

They are almost always mingers AFAICT. There's the odd decent one, you can find by searching their "username POF" - not necessary to signup to the service.

But where does it show their u/n demon? That's all I get in my email alerts and if I click on 'users who want to meet you' tab it just says you have an admirer and links to subscribe or 'there are people who want to meet you, upgrade now to see who they are'. I do agree that they are probably mingers judging from the majority of people showing in my 'who has viewed your profile' tab hehe.

There is an easy way if you have an iPad. You don't have the search username function on the iPhone.

Using the app you will get a pop up thing on your screen saying "hornymuff1982(or similar)" wants to meet you. Just remember the name or screenshot it. Go onto the app(only on the iPad) search, username, type the name in there and bobs your auntie.biggrin

99% of the time it's a fake profile trying to get you to sign up for a shagging/dogging etc site. I have had some genuine ones too though.

I had one whos username was 'someone'.... that was confusing biggrin My email alerts literally just say "katieswan wants to meet you" or similar - google that + POF and you get the profile. Doesn't always work, in which case 'meh'

That's all mine says in the email subject "Someone wants to meet you". Which is not particularly useful. smash

There's been a few changes on pof since they were bought by the Match Group. The operation of the mobile app and the website differs a bit now, and sometimes you can see things in one that you can't see in the other.

Word in the industry is that they will quietly let POF die a natural death with lack of future development

At which point (surely), someone will step in and fill the gap in the market for a free dating site?

How's this for a laugh guys?

Clicky.

The blurb at the bottom specifically :

"Also, if I've viewed your profile and not messaged it doesn't necessarily mean I'm not interested, I just prefer the man to make the first move (guess that either makes me lazy, old fashioned or both!)"

rofl

So let me get this straight : you want the guy to do all the work, sending the initial message, then you'll check out his profile to see if you like him, but if you do you still can't be arsed to reply to be polite and you expect the guy to then send another message basically begging to take you out even though he has no idea whether or not you like him ?!

How about.. NOPE!

^ My thoughts too.

I've figured out what's going on with Zoosk now having done some research. It turns out that unless you're BOTH paying members then it won't let you communicate with each other at all. I paid for the membership upgrade so that non-subscribers could chat with me but yet I never get any responses when I send them a message to chat. I thought it was just me at first laugh but I went mental and spammed every single person that was online for a chat hehe and still got absolutely zero responses eek. I kept seeing 'x wants to chat with you' but never see any actual words.

Anyway.. I found one of them on POF and so I stuck my Snapchat ID in my blurb on there and got her attention by clicking her profile a whole bunch of times and she looked at mine, saw my Snapchat ID and recently contacted me through it. I asked her if she'd been getting any of my Zoosk messages and she says no, it was just prompting her to subscribe. That is well out of order imho and I sent a ticket to Zoosk support saying that people weren't able to chat with me despite having paid for the option. I'm awaiting a response.

I just went and added my Snapchat ID to my description and sure enough, the update was approved within 5 mins, but they've removed the Snapchat line.

I saw this page which seems to confirm my findings too.

Subscription cancelled !

I think you've misread that.

She may have been browsing profiles, seen someone she liked, but was waiting for him to make the first move, as the site will have notified him that she'd been looking.

Indeed. And this demonstrates the upper hand women have in the online dating arena, even a generous 5/10 such as the linked woman above probably gets so much attention that she doesn't need to message men in the first instance. Although now I write this I realise that out in the real world it is not so different either.

Meanwhile, someone will message her with the right tone, she'll bite and be getting boned by him a couple of weeks hence. No point moaning about the rules of engagement, it has ever been thus. She's fairly cute, so will be getting plenty messages. Dismissing as a 'generous 5/10' smacks of bhiness from the PH powerfully built director set who are no doubt Pitt/Clooney lookalikes....

The hard part there is, now that the market is maturing, and people are more savvy about fake profiles, is starting a new site. How do you get folk to join a site with no members?
