Ive been an avid reader of this thread without any contribution until now. The whole talk of 'the mental' seemed a bit OTT and i thought i must just be lucky with all the sane girls ive met......that was until last week! A severe case of the mental after half an hour of talking on Tinder!
Im of the 'swipe everything right and filter out later' view.
So, anyway the other day i get the usual notification sound of a match. Before i can even view is i get a message from her along the lines of 'hey, how are you this evening?'. I have a quick look at her pictures, looks ok, not my type though and lives about 60miles away. As i was bored i carried on the convo for a bit talking about the usual stuff then she asks me why did i swipe right? and that i must have liked what i saw. Im a firm believer in honesty so told her that i swipe everyone right then filter them out afterwards.......that was it, she went absolutely mental!
I was accused of leading women on, possibly missing out on the best girlfriend ever (her!), shallow, arrogant, etc etc the list went on. I didnt need anymore persuading, a quick unmatch and back to normality i went.
No more than 10minutes after this scare my phone buzzed, i had an email. Checked it and it was along the lines of 'WelshSuperModel has sent you a new message' (ive changed the name to protect her identity, although i wouldnt be surprised if she's reading this!) so i think hmmmm ok sounds mildly promising. So i click my POF inbox only to find that it's Tinder girl!......'why the fk have you unmatched me on tinder you arrogant ?!'. What made it even more amusing was that only then i realised i had also ignored 4 of her previous POF meassages that she had sent over the previous weeks which went along the lines of ...'hey'...'hey there'....'fancy a chat?'.....'hey!'...Obviously this poor soul couldn't take a hint, well, could but not very well!
Im just waiting for the facebook message from her now for the full house!
Meet her, nail her, what could possibly go wrong?Im of the 'swipe everything right and filter out later' view.

Well, I've unhidden my POF profile again, I'll see if I can catch anything other than a 18 stone whale this time round...
How many messages do you guys send out on a average day? I've tried the "wait for them to come" method and that really, really doesn't work!!
Apparently (according to other people) I'm a good looking chap (or at least was a few years ago!) but it seems like the online dating sites have a large proportion of timewasters/kid in a candy shop syndrome i.e. any pretty woman on PF will have hundreds of messages a day from desperate blokes like us, where as the bloke are left scrabbling round for scraps on the floor Or maybe I need to lower my standards...

Just use tinder, you can get a date a day if you live in a reasonably populated area.
If they match then you're in for a meet up basically.
Have just reset my tinder account and I'm doing the "swipe right on everyone then sort the wheat from the chaff later" tactic, first match and a message back. If they match then you're in for a meet up basically.

Met a lass of POF on Sunday, she is very pretty, eloquent, intelligent, independent and capable. Lots of texts and emails, try to meet up Friday or mid next week. Very happy!
it's a trap.Give it 3 months, the lack of logic will show through and you'll either run, get murdered in your sleep or work out how to deal with the crazy.

I'm either blocked before I get the chance to tap the notification, blocked after I send them a message, ignored, or get an abusive reply telling me to realise how f***ing ugly I am and to ps off!
I'm not doing the "swipe everyone right" technique now, but I find that most women (under 30) I swipe right anyway. Maybe 75%. Much higher average quality than POF and Match. Not sure if the quality of men on it is as high - if it is, that's probably why I'm not doing well!

Just re-activated the POF
Got a good profile pic (suit as mentioned earlier)
Only getting hippos, older 'ladies' and those that hit-every-branch-on-the-way-down messaging me or clicking "would like to meet".
To be fair, it doesn't bother me. But it doesn't suggest much IQ if she looks at me, looks at my profile, my activities/likes and then still we have sod all in common. Not expecting, (don't actually want) exact same interests but 1 or 2 might help. As someone pretty sporty. You really think someone weighing more than my car is likely to pique my interest?
Also noticing a lot of Teachers / People working in Education. Is this a goldmine worth investigating. Or are they all nutters since they spend their days with children.
And too many ladies say "London". Be good if they narrowed it down a bit. Not traipsing round the M25 on a maybe

We talked about it today over lunch, in bed at my place. My summary remains, she is very intense, very focussed, slightly ocd about cleanliness (which is ironic given what we ate for lunch) I can see why she would annoy the st out of someone in the same way I annoy the st out of people, I think it will depend on whether we amplify the annoyance or cancel it out, but frankly, I haven't had this much fun since I was 17. So fk it, I'm 43, women like this don't walk into your life every day, let alone your bedroom.
What'd you have for lunch *L* ?Rich_W said:

What'd you have for lunch *L* ?Life in the 2014 century. Meet nice girl, have dance, go back to hers. Realise you had already matched up on Tinder a week back but never got back to her message.
She was actually kinda surpised to meet a guy out on the town rather than from online. Things are getting mental with dating.

You're 43? She sounds about 25??
she is 37 but doesn't act it, I don't act 43 either. Having a great Christmas so far, see how it pans out but all the signs are good. Maybe there is something in this internet dating after all. I was very bored of it towards the end I must admit, if this doesn't work out i'll become a monk, spend the rest of my life wking into an old sock or maybe just chat to women in bars. Sorry, the last one was a really stupid idea.So I decided to make things more interesting for myself. I set myself up a new Tinder account a few days ago with a duplicate Facebook account that I had set up for spammy stuff a year ago.
Careful not to have any pics on both profiles, the new one explicitly states only here for fun and temporary little spoons. I'm getting a much better hitrate both on matches and hookups as a direct result. I'm being careful as well not to swipe yes to previous matches from my "real" Tinder account.. The new account has one selfie pic of me in a suit, and one pic each of me biking and kayaking.
Only got one disapproving comment via sms from one of the girls I used to date earlier this year - she had killed her Tinder account and recreated, and she got my new profile in the first few offerings. Not that I care really.
So from the new account there's been two dates, one FWB arrangement if/when neither of us is regularly dating others, and another probable hookup later in the next few days..

Sly Considered doing this myself as the main shot is me DJing and a load of party pics. Great for matching up with the party girls but not the 'nice' ones hahaThat said been texting one I saw last week and have persuaded her to pick me up from my parents place so I can make a sneaky Christmas escape and get back here in the morning
She's driving up from Portsmouth to Winchester and then down to Brighton. Feeling quite cunning.
I doubt I'll feel so cunning when I wake up in Brighton with a hangover and need to get a train back first thing
