Very nice collection. I would love a track car or a road rally car and start doing something like that it's just the money. Graduation and real job needs to hurry up.

I know what you mean, I think that's one of the reason's I enjoyed my first car 206 1.4 8V so much, with it's whole 75bhp you could just drive it everywhere flat out.

Very much so, just had a look in the classifieds on here. there's only 3, one of which with a price tag of 40K. I did see one in the flesh the other night as well and I think that's reminded me just how good they look.

Thank you! Money is always the limiting factor with our hobby! Hence why I'm doing 12 hour night shifts for the next 2 weeks... I need that overtime money to help fund it all! I'm sponsored to race the E30 so that helps - the 3 road cars cost nowhere near as much to run.. Just fuel and tax for the RX's really!

For a student with limited funds you're not doing too badly!

That £40k one has been on sale for a while! They're nice, but not £40k nice!

I've seen some lovely ones at Sunday Services! *off to classifieds again*

Yer your telling me. I need to look for another job, where I am now used to be pretty good with hours, but now im down to just my basic contract 16 hours. plus it's a 30 mile round commute. So it's not ideal anymore. I work for the Co-Op and due to there bad financial situation there's been massive cut backs throughout the whole company. Last year even around lectures I used to get between 30-40 hours a week. Infact at one point if I only got 30 hours for the week that was actually a bad week in terms of number of hours. But times change and it's time to move on. I need to get my CV up to date fully. I have been searching for other jobs but it's finding something that will fit around Uni as well.

How do you get sponserd to do things like that? I know of a few people who manage things like that and I keep meaning to ask, but never remember when I actually talk to them.

I see life as being whatever you make of it. You get out of it what you put in. When I bought this GTi I worked hard for that. I was working on average 50-60 hours a week in the Co-Op (Which did pay quite well, anything after 39 hours got paid at time and a half) Plus I had a job in the pub at the same time and was doing about 15 hours a week there as well. So my wages was half decent back then. But things changed, first I lost my job in the pub due to the lack of business at the time. And then the Co-Op started failing financially which led to a shake up. The first being a ban on anybody doing more than 39 hours. Then things just slowly got worse and worse to the point im at now. I'm probably about £1000 worse off a month than I was 18 months ago now.

But I do try and pick up some side jobs as well. I've broken a few car's. Done some mechanics for people and computer repairs. Quite happy to give anything a go if it returns a bit of cash.

Your telling me, it's a bit like the Ford Cosworth's, there getting a bit overpriced. As much as I'd like one I don't think I could justify paying that sort of money for an 80's Ford.

I got lucky to be honest... I did a couple of track days, then someone who works for my dad (who used to race) arranged for one of his friends, an ARDS instructor, to coach me for a day... They thought I was pretty good... Next thing I know my dad has managed to get me some sponsors... There a couple of logistics companies that give me money towards the series and also a BMW dealer based in Germany who gives me free parts. Its my first season this year, hopefully I do well enough to get money for a second! Its another reason why I'm doing this job... I'm desperate to get a job in London in a sales role which is what I'm great at, but my hours where I am now (4pm until midnight when the normal nightshift guy isn't on holiday!) are so convenient for me - I can go and do a test day or track day without having to book a days leave... I was at Brands Hatch last week, Silverstone next week, back at Brands the week after etc...

Like you said, life is what you make of it... I could be dead in 12 months time, or have a kid, or anything else... This might be my only chance to enjoy spending my money on things I like... So many of my friends are saving for a house and some already have one - ok that's probably the smart thing to do... But at the end of the day, I'm doing what I love with money I have spare at an age where I'm in my physical prime (I think, maybe in 10 years I'll get into bodybuilding).

What kind of career do you want after uni?

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal out of it then. Yer being able to do what you want without having to book time off etc is always a bonus.

Yup pretty much, I'm trying to do everything I want to whilst I still can and don't have anything to tie me down or hold me back. November just gone I finally did a complete weekend spectating the WRC with a mate. It was some very long days and the best part of 1000 miles over 4 days. But was worth every second of it. Really can't wait for it again this year.

I'm not 100% sure really, my degree's in (or will be in) Computer Science. But I just can't decide which area exactly I'd like to go into. I think probably something more towards networking.

Not going to lie I'm ridiculously lucky to get sponsorship. As far as I know, usually you have to fund it yourself for a few years and build up a portfolio which you can use to demonstrate your ability in order to secure a sponsor.

That sounds brilliant - I wouldn't mind doing something like that - but pretty much all of my friends have commitments that can't be dropped for a full weekend of watching some rallying!

I'm not exactly a techy guy but its always interested me - so much money in it too. That degree will definitely pay off!

Ah yer, that idea may have to be put on hold until after I graduate then and can actually throw some proper money into it.

It was absolutely brilliant. My pictures folder for the entire weekend is roughly 35GB. It was some very long days, getting up at just after 5am and not getting home until gone midnight. But being on all the stages and seeing everything parked up in service was an experience. Cost us £198 for two access passes and the car park ticket. Then it was just fuel, and food. Some of the fun just came from being able to blast down all the back roads to and from the stages in the GTi. With it being almost on the door step, I know quite a lot of the local roads. My mate I went with is planning on getting a Go-pro to strap on the front of the GTi for this year.

Hopefully it will, it's just finding the right job at the end of it all. A lot of places give very general job titles, and low pay when some of the tasks are actually very specialized and other companies have job openings just for that one task and will pay silly money for them. It will just be pot luck I think. But I will do everything I can to make sure I give myself the best possible chance of one of the better paid jobs.

35GB... Blimey! Sounds really good value for money for the weekend really - quite lucky yo have it close to your home too!
You'll have to post the GoPro footage on here so I have something to watch when I'm on nights! smile

Hopefully you get in with a good company who give you a decent salary... I was always told an employer is looking for someone smart enough to do the job but dumb enough to stay - hopefully you do land one of the better roles available when you graduate!

Yer I did get a bit trigger happy with the camera. I was able to borrows my step-mum's Cannon DSLR so got some pretty good pictures & video's of the whole weekend. Yer it made sense to go for the all access passes with what we were planning to do. As for each stage if you were to pay individually, it's £25 per adult per stage plus the car park fee in some places. So soon paid for itself. And I will do, I've just been watching some of yours.

I hope so as well, I've got too many expensive hobby's that wont forgive me if I don't hehe and that does sound about right really.

God I hate my footage! It always looks so slow when you mount it inside the car! I should have done the end of the bonnet or somewhere on the bumper really! Having said that, I'm sure my 20 subscribers would disagree! biggrin

To be fair, you could always sell a Pug or two for some spare cash that you could then use to buy another Pug!

I enjoyed it, especially some of the sideways action of you pulling out of your estate in the 8 :P

True, I do keep meaning to try and get rid of the diesel 206, plus once I get the Coupé back on the road properly, I should save some money in fuel costs as well.

Haha I used to flick the back end out at every junction... But that, combined with the track days, meant I was seeing buying a new set of tyres every 3 months... That's when I worked out that leasing the Citigo, insuring it, fueling it and taxing it worked out £100 cheaper a month than just commuting in the RX8!

Yeah diesel 206 to go - the Coupe and GTi is a pretty good combo.

Sounds like you had a similar habit a mate of mine had in his Fiesta ST. Just used to constantly do burnouts everywhere. He was putting a new set of tires on the front every 2 weeks at one point.

Sooner that goes the better really. I never did enjoy driving it, I think it was just too similar to the GTi but without the fun. I have a bit of a dream garage that involves those 2 as well as a 106 GTi and a 306 GTi-6 in moonstone blue as well. I don't know why I just really really like that colour. But I also want either an Indigo Blue or Bianca White (or both) 106 Rallye mk2 as well as a 306 Rallye. But it leaves me with a dilemma of when I buy a 205 GTi of which colour to go and buy.

On the other by the time that does happen, my dad may have finally given in and given me the keys to his Evo so i'd be in financial ruin and not be able to do anything hehe

Every two weeks... I'd be bankrupt after a month! hehe

Before I got the E30, I was doing 3 sets of brake pads a month in the RX-8! I used Hawk Performance Race pads which were bloody expensive but could only last about 1 and a third track days!

106 Rallye in the blue and a 206 GTi in the red for me please!
There's a chap on here (I think his username is R1CH) who is a 205 GTi master, he's had several and knows them in and out!

I could make a pretty good french garage...

Citroen C6 and DS
Renault Avantime, Clio V6 and Spider
Pug 205 GTi and 106 Rallye

He was an electrician working for his dad's company so was on silly money. He could afford to do that plus smoke the best part of 60 a day, along with a crate of redbull. And eat out every night of the week.

I would like to get some more performance orientated discs & pads on the GTi,ever since I've had it I've ran Mintex, but I've found that although out the box they have a fair bit of stopping power, after a few miles I find I can bring on brake fade quite easily.

I did have a Diablo Red 206 GTi at one point as well. My first 1.4 Was also Diablo Red.
WP_000009 by LeeThr, on Flickr

I think I may need to buy an old farm or something with the amount of land I will need for my garage, will probably be a mixture of french & jap & a few odd balls as well.
106, 206, 306 GTi (moonstone blue)
406 Coupé
2 X 106 Rallyé in Indigo Blue & Bianca White
306 Rallyé probably white although I may consider red.
205 GTi 1.9 Miami Blue
205 GTi 1.6 Either red or black or grey.
205 T16 (Would need a lottery win)
309 GTi
405 MI-16
Saxo VTs
AX GT
Renault 5 GT Turbo
Clio sport 172/182
Clio V6
Evo 6 RS
Evo 6 Tommy Mac Edition
Evo 8 FQ
P1 scooby
22B Scooby
Bug, blob & hawk scoobys
R33 GTr in midnight purple
R34 GTr V-Spec 2 Nur in Bayside blue sat on a set of Gold Rota's
RX7
Celica GT4
MkIV Supra 3l twin turbo
Escort Cosworth
Siera Cosworth RS500
Shelby Mustang
Classic mini with a huabussa engine in the back of it.

And there's probably a few more to go on to that list as well.

I didn't even know the NS thread was still alive.

Good to see it hasn't changed much now it's in Volume two, it's still Lee talking about broken pugs. hehe

The Diablo red looks really good. Thinking about it, the 206's design suits every colour.

That's a pretty good list... I think the only thing I'd change myself is a Challenger Hellcat instead of the Mustang - having said that, I don't think I'd part ways with the best part of £70k for one!

I'd also need to add in some german stuff -
C63
E55
E30 M3 - white
E36 M3 - red
E46 M3 - that weird yellow colour
996 GT2
993 Turbo
997 Turbo

Looks like I'll be getting a Euromillions ticket for Friday now!

They both came up well after a wash. In the right light they both looked brilliant. This is one of the better pictures of my 1.4
21102011121 by LeeThr, on Flickr

There is a couple of colours that I don't think go well, but the majority do suit it quite well.

I'd forgotten about the M3's there would have to be a few of them in there as well
E30 M3
E36 M3 Evo 2 in Atlantis blue
I'd have to have one in sundance yellow as well with the black Vader interior.
E46 CSL
E39 M5
E60 M5
Audi Quatro
Audi RS4 just for that V8 noise cloud9
Lancia Delta Integrale Evo 2 in either red or blue or the martini racing colours.

I'm a bit fussy when it comes to car colours. I think certain cars have to be in the proper colour for them to be right. Some cars just dont look like they should in the wrong colour.

Not keen on VW but I would like a Lupo GTi a mate of mine had one and it was just an absolute pocket rocket, it wasn't the most powerful engine but the fact it had so little car to pull just meant it went like a stabbed rat, that coupled with it being dropped on a decent set of coilovers with the wheels not at 45 degree angles for "stance man" and actually set up for handling purposes meant it was like a go kart.
