I can't believe I forgot the M5's and the CSL!

Those Lupo GTi's are awesome, they still fetch quite a high price considering you can get their more powerful rivals for less! I'm not a VW fan either - but I do love the Golf MKIV R32 - the styling was spot on! Back off to the classifieds lol

The CSL's are just mental machines.

Your right there, when he bought his lupo he said he had trouble finding one for a decent price that wasn't wrecked. Don't go anywhere near the MkIV R32, another mate of mine had one (well still does he's getting rid when he can) replaced it with a Focus ST3. When he bought it I had to drive it back from the midlands to North Wales, I was bored for the entire journey. We both agreed in the end, for the specs on paper it was a very disappointing car. There was no sensation of speed in it at all. The only plus was this example had a un-resonated Miltek system on it which sounded spot on. But reliability wise this car single handed proved German Reliability was a myth. Even though the car came with a service history as thick as the yellow pages from VW specialists and VW dealers. In the 14 months he had it on the road it racked up a repair bill of over 10K. He finally bit the bullet and decided enough was enough when the steering rack shat it self. Which had been replaced at the main dealer with a genuine part 2 months before he bought it and had the receipt to prove it as well.

Wow - I think I'd cut my losses after a few thousand... But 10k... Ouch! I didn't realise they were so unreliable - I've always thought they looked great but never really looked into them... Never will now either haha

Having said that - the RX-8's reputation isn't anything to be proud of, yet after nearly 2 years and 15,000 hard miles mines still like new!

My best mate is an aussie, she has friends back home with serious mileage on rotary engines. She can't understand how the one in the UK get such a bad rep.

But then she does believe in changing oil regularly and tyres when you can see the canvas. hehe

It wasn't even particularly high millage, just under 100k when he had it. But it was just problematic from day1, on the first trip (with me driving, he hadn't even driven it due to not having a licence due to a cock up with dvla) it shat a coil pack, that cost about £400 from.VW.
And that just set the tone for ownership, about 3 weeks before Christmas the clutch went and took the gearbox out with it at the same time. And a lot of other things happened in-between it all as well. In all honesty the whole day I had driving it I had more fun in the first 10 minuites getting back in the pug with half the power than id had all day.

Apparently the MkV was a solid car with all the issues fixed, but that's put him off them for life.

I think the RX8 gets a bad rep just for the engine rebuilds that people always go on about. That and the high fuel costs for the power it actually produces.

Yeah regular oil top ups and changes are a must... When I was tracking mine regularly I'd do it every other track day, now its every 3,000 miles.

Wow, poor bd for buying his way into all of those problems! Shame the MK V doesn't have the looks to go with the improved reliability!
The new R looks nice... But, at the end of the day I couldn't justify spending up to £45k on a 2.0 Turbo, its ludicrous!

On paper the RX-8 really doesn't seem worth it... 231bhp pulling around 1430KG that averages 16mpg and costs £500 to tax... But in reality its so worth it, the engine is fantastic and while it doesn't feel outright fast the power delivery just feels right.

There is something I like about the shape of MkV but still not enough to make me want one. I really upset someone In a new R the weekend of the WRC, obviously somebody that couldn't drive, got to some twisty bits on the a5 and he could not get away from me no matter what he did, it was only once we got to a long straight where he could just put his foot to the floor that je left the pug.

At least that redeems itself the MkIV didn't, it felt so slow even at high speed, it just had too much of a smooth steady power delivery probably due to the 4wd system bogging it down amongst other things.

God I hate that... Out-driving a faster car with skill to then just be annihilated on the straight purely because their car is faster. And they're probably thinking how they've beaten you! Gets on my nerves!

Its probably more annoying than people who think they're doing better in life because they're financing a 118d!

Yer it can be annoying not having that extra grunt to really show them the meaning of fast on the straights, but either way it's still fun being able to keep up with cars that should have twice the capability of what your driving in the corners. It was a fun few miles upsetting that particular idiot. So much so I ended up going 14 miles in the wrong direction to where we were supposed to be heading just so I could keep playing. The more I was keeping up with him in the corners you could see just how much more frustrated he was getting which led to even more mistakes being made and me just getting closer and closer. It did eventually get to the point where I had to back off and feather the throttle on & off otherwise I would have been in the back of him. He nearly binned it on the last corner coming on to the straight where he left me, he was in that much of a huff about needing to show just how superior his car really was he hit the power way too soon before he was out of the exit of the corner and nearly threw it in to a wall. But you could see the smugness before he went, but I knew I was the winner there.

And very true, that or the even worse scenario of the people who have a 116 on finance and think they have achieved everything in life. It's one thing I don't ever plan on doing in life is putting a car on finance. Every car i've bough (all be it, some have been in bits/needed work etc) I worked for and saved up the money to buy them outright for cash.

I used to think like that. But:
I'm looking at a "clear credit cards, overdraft and have enough for a decent, sensible motor left over" loan right now.

Started looking for decent all round cars to last 3-5 years as my only vehicle, about the £10k mark less than 5 years old, a kind of obvious progression from my Focus which has done that job admirable for the last 4 years.

I'd like an auto because as i have a st knee, and then i get distracted by BMW 730Ds, which can be had for much less than £10k. Then i realise that there would be little b-road fun in a 7-series so now i am looking at a toy as well as a barge.
banghead

This is why i will never be rich, a very sensible plan to clear my CC, move out of my OD and upgrade to a newer slightly nicer car actually looks to be morphing into a high miles 3.0 BMW limo and a early (pre 2002) S2000 for the weekend.

I work for a fuel company, we deliver fuel to sites... So unleaded and diesel to petrol stations and also stuff like gasoil and kerosene to wholesales sites...

I work the late shift (1600 to 0000) and basically its my job to sort out any problems that happen during the evening deliveries - problems can be broken down vehicles, traffic, sick drivers etc... If its quiet, its the easiest job in the world - when its busy its ridiculously stressful - I work on my own and a bad decision I make could quite literally end up in a tanker exploding and people dying if I don't follow procedures correctly (that's not exaggerated either!)...

Obviously at the moment I'm covering the night shift lol.

It doesn't pay the best but at the end of the day, 4 days out of 5 I don't actually have to do anything! Gets bloody boring though!

Ah cool, I can see that getting a bit tedious during the quiet times, bet you almost want to go throw a spanner under the bonnet at times just to give you something to do later on.

I really need to find another job, but its just finding something that I can fit around uni lectures. Sadly most things that will are all around the minimum wage level which doesn't particularly fund my expensive habits too well.

Yeah it does get tedious... But it gives me time to properly think about what I want to do with my life.

Minimum wage will suck but I suppose you need experience in the industry first - then you can start job hopping and hunt for those bigger wage packets. The hobby will have to take a back seat for a while.

2 years ago I was on minimum wage *trying* to run an RX7 and an RX8, that was so difficult lol, I hated being a petrolhead so much when I all of my pay went on the cars!

Ah yer, that's what I used to enjoy when I was working in the pub, used to do afternoons and it was very quiet, got given a list of jobs which I normally had done in under the first hour. And apart from.one maybe two locals who nursed the odd half it hardly got busy until about the last hour of my shift, so I had a good 4 hours sat with my laptop where I could get myself sorted for the week with anything I needed.

I know that feeling well, co op wages and running a GTi as a daily doesn't go too well. Hopefully I shall have the Coupé back on the road soon which will save me on fuel costs .
