Insomnia and a very bad sleeping pattern because of it.

Ouch - how much sleep do you get a night on average then?

I feel bad for having so much sleep now... When I'm on my usual shift I sleep 12 hours a day!

It varies depending upon what time I have to be up, but can be as little as 2 hours some nights, and once in a blue moon I don't get any sleep. The trouble is it usually results in me falling asleep at the first opportunity throughout the day which results in the cycle happening all over again.

Geuss its part of the fun of shift work with no pattern and lectures at odd times its difficult to get into a cycle and maintain it.

Wow! Credit to you for even being able to get out of bed after 2 hours!

Can't say I'd want to be a passenger in the GTi though! In case you fall asleep at the wheel! biggrin

It has to be done at times especially when the Co Op do silly things like have me there till 10pm on a Friday night and its not normally until about 10:20pm we get out by the time the tills are done and everything else. And then its about 20-25 minuites trip home, plus time to get food etc, the being back to start again at 6am on the Saturday morning which has happened too many times and is an absolute killer.

Trust me youd rather be with me in the GTi than the Coupé, I can keep myself awake with use of the loud pedal and the windows being down. The coupé with its quiet sophisticatedness, gentle ride & heated arm chairs has greater risk of putting me back to sleep.

Damn thats not even legal! You're meant to have 11 hours between shifts by law... No company ever seems to stick to it though lol

That's a good point... Even I'd probably doze off in the wafty coupe!

Tried telling them, they don't care. Management get to do their own hours so there not concerned at all. Its an absolute pain, I'm lucky to see about 4 hours bu the time I'm settle & I can actually fall asleep.

Anybody coil its such a comfy car even at high speed.

Its ridiculous! I suppose you could say that's an incentive to work your way up to management, then start abusing your power!

I do apologies for that last post, when I start typing like that usually means im on the point of nodding off. Which I think may have happened.

I did try for a supervisor job when one got sacked nearly 2 years ago now, only me & one other person applied, I missed out on it because the other person got one more point in the interview. It was scored out of 100, pass mark 55, I got 63 she got 64.

The management in the place is crap though, as long as their happy with hours etc they couldn't care less about anybody else.

Ouch one point, that's so unlucky!

I know what you mean about management...

Staff aren't allowed the wifi code - the boss is fully aware I have no work to do on my shift and that I watch films - yet I am still not allowed it, there is no logical reason for it...

At least PH doesn't get filtered on the PC I guess!

Yer, that was also the start of a few rough months for me, im still convinced now that had I gone to the doctors around that time I would have been diagnosed with depression in a big way with the way I was feeling at the time.

The worst part is when they try and suck up to you and pretend there on your side when 9 times out of 10 whatever your pissed about is their fault. Even when they had full control of the rota's they still used to do stupid things like 10pm finishes with 6am starts the following day. The deputy manager (team manager officially) who's in charge of the rota's whenever I used to complain to her about it id just get the same story "well I do it and you don't see me complaining" it's all good for her, she live's not even a mile from the place so her travel time's is a few minutes giving her a bit more of a break. When I loose the best part of an hour due to travel time's it's a bit different, but it doesn't get seen like that.

The reason's probably just "company policy" the same crappy reason they give everything when they don't want you to do something yet there's no justifiable reason as to why not.

Very true, it's one thing I did suffer with in college, the PH website wasn't blocked but the forum was. I just used to end up spending my days browsing the classifieds and coming up with the perfect garage for various scenarios.

Damn - I hope things have picked up for you since then!

At the end of the day, they're the ones that will spend their lives working at the Co-Op and you're going actually finish your degree and have a decent career!

'Company Policy' pisses me of so much. Its such BS.

They have, not as much as I would have liked, but I'm in a much better place emotionally than I was back then. I went through a few months where my life seemed to be on a roll going uphill for it to suddenly come crashing back down catastrophically. Up to that point, things had been going well, id worked my arse off and finally bought a car to replace my failing 1.4 that was needing more money than it was worth thrown at it just to keep it in a state of being able to limp it to work and back (my current GTi) had been with a girl I really liked for a fair while. I was doing quite a range of things and just generally enjoying life, then the opportunity for promotion arose in work. Then everything just came crashing down. Found out I didn't get the promotion, then the girl I was with suddenly decided she wanted nothing more to do with me and within a week of us finishing was suddenly in a relationship & all happy with some other lad. Nearly all my friends just seemed to disappear, they were all either too busy or just didn't make any contact for months on end. Christmas came and went, still pretty much on my own, then I lost my job in the pub with about 12 hours notice. and my hours in the co op were down to contract with it being a quiet winter. It just got to the point where I really felt isolated and alone and was struggling a bit money wise as well. Ended up getting myself into a bit of debt unintentionally and the stress of that just added to things. I had next to nobody to talk to or do anything with. And I just couldn't do anything because I didn't have the money too, and I was getting stuck with all the 6am starts unfairly. I was going mad just being stuck seeing the same 4 walls all day every day either in the shop or in my room. I don't know what got me through it, but something did. But there was one point where I really was having some bad thoughts.

Very true, the sooner I'm out the place the better, the day I can hand in my notice will put a huge smile on my face.

And agreed on company policy BS.

Wow, that's quite a lot of blows in a short space of time - I'm not surprised you went through an emotional bad patch!

I know what you mean about about seeing the same 4 walls... I'm either at home or at work - and because of my hours I'm on by own at both places and again because of my hours I rarely see friends - it can be a bit crap really. If it weren't for my hobby then I'd probably be in a bit of a rut.

I've got a holiday planned with friends in June which will be a nice break from pretty much not existing lol

It was a bad time, but I got through it just about.

Working odd hours can take irs toll at times.

You going anywhere nice? That's what I think I need is a holiday. In september I went to stay with a friend in the midlands for half a week & it wasn't honestly the most relaxed and destressed id been in a very long time.

Just a cheap piss-up in Tenerife - £220 for flights, transfers and all inclusive hotel for a week... Couldn't really say no to that! I've done Magaluf, Mali, Tenerife etc all before and no what to expect... Its going to be a care free lads holiday - my first drinking holiday since 2012, my liver is going to hate me!

Yeah just a couple days makes all the difference, just getting away from your normal surroundings can be so refreshing! Makes coming back even harder though!
