Venice is great for a day, as long as the plebs from the cruise ships have left. Once you've done St Marks and the Rialto, do try and jump on a taxi boat to one of the outer islands. Heck, the view just looking back is worth the fare alone.

I have bought the Venetian equivalent of an Oyster card which allows unlimited travel on the vaporetto`s so I am planning on a trip out to Murano or Burano.
