Seems I just got nominated. Joy.
Presume it's possible to just ignore it. Or just give a tenner to charity and sod the rest.

I was almost nominated last night ... I dissuaded my mate by promising him a swift kick to the testicles if he did ...

This just personifies everything I hate about social media. People only do it for attention/validation, most of the people I've seen on my FB feed don't have a charitable bone in their body.

If someone "nominated" me I'd tell them where to go. I give my time each week to a charity that helps disabled children, but I don't need to go posting about it on FB. I occasionally donate money too, anonymously of course.

So much charitable giving is wasted by large corporations that I think any charitable giving should be done locally if you care about how it is spent.

The bloke getting himself killed in a quarry doing the Ice Bucket Challenge is just simple Darwinism. He tried to take this stupid fad way too far in an effort to impress his peers no doubt, very sad for his family frown

Most of the "celebs" seem to be guilty of this, Carol Vorderman springs to mind !

This is my favourite one so far. Brilliant from start to finish. Love a bit of Schadenfreude on a Monday afternoon.

"Quick where's the ice?" hehe

Y'know, people criticise social media but it's the best way of witnessing utter idiocy in its many forms.

Rewound the video several times whilst shouting POW. The ice line cracked me up, the irony was delicious.

I'd like to try it, and also try to remain totally emotionless as it happens, no screaming, no jumping around.

Doable??? scratchchin
Yes, it is. Steve McManaman (ex-footballer I think) did it at Villa at the weekend. He didn't flinch. Not sure if the footage is online though, or whether BT will play it out at some point.
I don't think it's possible to not react to ice cold water unless he's cheated.

It's a physical reaction that can't be controlled, unless you're a robot or meditating.
I agree, but I was there and saw it, I was very surprised.

I thought being a miserable sod and being anti social would mean I would be left alone...

I've just been nominated.

I've been nominated twice now on Facebook, both times I've replied with one word - "Nope". I give to two charities every month and I took my time and researched when I picked those, that won't change because someone's thrown a bucket of water over themselves.

not sure if it has been posted, but Charlie Sheen had the right idea as well, not as classy as Patrick Stewart, but still made a point.

A close relative if mine died from Motor Neurone Diesese last year . I was there the first he complained that he couldn't feel his little toe and he went to the doctor. I saw the fear when he nearly suffocated when he couldn't breath. Within 18 months he was bedridden feeding through a tube. I'll say that luckily he died soon afterwards. It can go on for years.

Who on earth at Macmillan decided to highjack the trend for their own ends.
More than a scandal, absolute disgrace. Seems like corporate charity gone mad.. I can see it backfiring against them big time which is a shame as they do a lot if good but this stinks..

I think I would've had to throw that bucket of water over my own head if I'd come across her 'dressed' like that in the street!!
The one on her website that someone linked to earlier has her without the black tape. So she did it twice??
Indeed, it seems the naked one was second.

It sounds cruel but just like a proper stroke, you'll be trapped in your own body as your brain can be sharp. Whilst quality of life varies from person to person, I can't imagine many people would be happy to be motionless in a chair watching Jeremy Kyle for months on end. frown
