The Ice Bucket Challenge
Discussion
This just personifies everything I hate about social media. People only do it for attention/validation, most of the people I've seen on my FB feed don't have a charitable bone in their body.
If someone "nominated" me I'd tell them where to go. I give my time each week to a charity that helps disabled children, but I don't need to go posting about it on FB. I occasionally donate money too, anonymously of course.
So much charitable giving is wasted by large corporations that I think any charitable giving should be done locally if you care about how it is spent.
The bloke getting himself killed in a quarry doing the Ice Bucket Challenge is just simple Darwinism. He tried to take this stupid fad way too far in an effort to impress his peers no doubt, very sad for his family

I'd like to try it, and also try to remain totally emotionless as it happens, no screaming, no jumping around.
Doable???
Yes, it is. Steve McManaman (ex-footballer I think) did it at Villa at the weekend. He didn't flinch. Not sure if the footage is online though, or whether BT will play it out at some point.Doable???
It's a physical reaction that can't be controlled, unless you're a robot or meditating.
not sure if it has been posted, but Charlie Sheen had the right idea as well, not as classy as Patrick Stewart, but still made a point.

A close relative if mine died from Motor Neurone Diesese last year . I was there the first he complained that he couldn't feel his little toe and he went to the doctor. I saw the fear when he nearly suffocated when he couldn't breath. Within 18 months he was bedridden feeding through a tube. I'll say that luckily he died soon afterwards. It can go on for years.
Who on earth at Macmillan decided to highjack the trend for their own ends.
More than a scandal, absolute disgrace. Seems like corporate charity gone mad.. I can see it backfiring against them big time which is a shame as they do a lot if good but this stinks..

I think I would've had to throw that bucket of water over my own head if I'd come across her 'dressed' like that in the street!! Suggest it is a tad NSFW...

It sounds cruel but just like a proper stroke, you'll be trapped in your own body as your brain can be sharp. Whilst quality of life varies from person to person, I can't imagine many people would be happy to be motionless in a chair watching Jeremy Kyle for months on end.
