Should we be charging for advice?
Discussion
I'm not sure if it's just me, but there seems to be quite a big increase in the number of first time posters asking quite technical questions on Pistonheads. Is PH becoming famous on the internet for it's free advice?
Maybe I'm a grump, but in such circumstances I tend not to offer a view - it's a community where you should get out what you put in and I suspect once the newbie get's their answer they'll never been seen again. I dread to think what Breadvan's total fee would be for the free advice he's given on here over the years.

Would you get your money back for wrong advice? Do want to pay for answer, just wondering.
technically speaking, if you got advice on here about property (say) from someone you knew to be a chartered surveyor on here, and it turned out to be wrong...you would be entitled to recompense of some description.A court would be of the opinion that if you knew them to be in a position to offer advice (especially if they are a member of ACCA or RICS or equivalent for their field) that there is an implicit duty of care on behalf of the advice giver.
The 'informal' aspect of it is based purely on trust that the advised will not sue if the advice is crock....
