Snowing just north of Brum, doubt it will settle, ground is soaking! Grrrrrr!
It will. The front that is creating the ppn right now where you are has a pool of cold air high up in it, which has allows it to snow pretty much all day, but you've only had rain on the ground, as it was too warm for the snow to remain as snow. However, the melting process of the snow has cooled the air sufficiently now to get to the "wet bulb freezing level" to allow it to snow to the ground. This cold air will continue to stay mixed in with the precipitation through the nigh, provididing plenty of snowfall opportunity, whilst also freezing the ground. It is then being followed by a high pressure, which will freeze the ground. I'd be VERY surprised if you didn't wake up to 4 / 5" of lying snow in the morning (obviously, if your in a big urban area, the urban heat may be sufficient to keep the WBFL high enough to only deliver wet snow that doesn't stick aroundGassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
