A rather unexpected -4.7 currently here in West Berks
Carol on the tele box just said it went to -8.7 in west Berks. Coldest place in the UK. Currently +7 here

Well... nearly 7

hehe

I was expecting his weather data placed in-front of a large, wood-surrounded loch.

With regard to these temperatures - for a start they aren't very cold. Even though we've had a big dump of snow the temperatures are still relatively warm (Rossendale) with -1C the coldest I've yet seen. Last year I never saw lower than +1C all winter.

But the really odd thing is the huge variations from day to day - +10 and 0 the next. I swear this is a recent phenomenon. Or is it just me? They're all over the place.
I was thinking the same, but I think it is just down to having so much information now, when I wake up the time and temperature is projected onto the ceiling, downstairs I have a mini weather station, its on my phone the television and in the car, once over we would have just said its cold, now we know to a decimal point the temperature and any variations that take place.
I think there is an element of truth to this, but also this winter's weather is different. It's mostly coming from the NW, bringing in occasionally less cool periods of wind and rain, and then the sharp frosts. I mentioned it a couple of times in the pattern forecasts (always good to be proven right!).

Normally our weather comes from the SW, whatever time of year!

Just for that, you can have yesterday's sunrise:

Some debate on our drive - my car says -3.0C and the boy's says -4C (East Sussex).

One of the colder ones this winter. Back in 2008 we saw -11.0C one morning...

Where is our effing snow? Drove to work through rain two days' ago when the temp wouldn't shift above 0.0C. Old Worlde snow fell at anything up to 4.0C.

Isn't there a snow app?

Arctic cold is disappearing it seems. A place a few hours away is going from -30C to -10C in less than a day at the weekend. Looks like we'll get snow after the cold clear weather. However it will bring a big avalanche risk after the weather we've been having.

I'd suggest you shouldn't trust your car thermometer wink

Models are slowly firming up for the coldest blast of winter smile

Nothing easterly about it though, so likely to be short lived.

Was -4.5 when I dropped the OH off at the station this morning.

I (still) have no heating.

British Gas are here and attempting to fix.

I'm cold.

Feb is also looking potentially interesting, MetOffice are talking about the possibility of Scandinavian High...

Of course, it might just be the type of high that ruined the start of winter by sitting over the UK
