Thank f*** for that. I was starting to wonder how to protect the greenhouse from 220mph winds.
Arse, that's brought much humour to the v8250 household this evening...in fact, I'm still laughing at such a public dropping of the proverbial bk Will post correct wind speeds another time......220mph greenhouse protection...suggest subterranean concrete bunker

Blame the OP, he started the "SNOW" thread waaaay to early...as per 2013 and look what sort of winter we had then! Cold, wet and windy.
I accept full responsibility for the extreme lack of UK winter snow, the grey wintery clouds, Friday's due onslaught of much gusting about...and utmost apologies to the peoples of Santorini and the Cretans of Crete But it's brought a most active thread to PH, with much good banter, some excellent photographs...and our earnest schoolboy hopes that we'll all see a good dumping of the 'WhiteStuff' in the coming weeks...

Please remember to include your location when giving weather reports. ..otherwise your contribution is pointless.
?? If someone kindly provides a weather report for Inverness, whether they live in Budleigh Salterton or Timbuktu makes no difference. What you're trying to say is, if someone posts 'been snowing here for the past 36 hours and down to last tin of baked beans', then they should state where the 'here' is.

MetOffice have now issued a yellow weather warning of snow coming from the South West Tues/ Weds as Puggit describes above.
Have been keeping an eye on this since week. Wednesday morning's commute may prove interesting for some. If you have winter tyres in the garage, you may like to put them on tonight...just in case.[quote=hora]Lovely day in the Peaks yesterday. Could someone answer me this though- I was driving at circa 30mph due to certain road conditions in a 50. A Audi A3 came up behind me and overtook me at speed....and almost had a head on with a Landrover Defender. One one stretch both nearside of both sides of the road had a layer of compacted snow but the middle of the road was tarmac. Oncoming cars weren't driving slowly. Why do people drive like this?
Anyway. Heres a pic
Because they're not sensibly aware FXT drivers like us BTW nice photo'

Rain/sleet and ice more likely to be problems...
I've been wondering how long it would take before they put this up. What's more interesting for the S/SE, is next Tuesday.http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/weather/warning...

Bloody great
You'll be fine. GVA's not that bad and the Autoroute Blanche is rarely closed. A FWD hire car with winters and chains is the fastest winter hack known to man. Once spent a crazy week in Megeve driving a truly knackered Renault 5 with super chunky winter tyres. The little 1.4 litre rust bucket was unstoppable...especially after the 4th or 5th l'eau de vie - We are due to leave LHR at 0855
- Land at Geneva at 1135. Geneva airport is notorious for being rubbish at snow clearance. There is lots of snow forecast for Geneva tomorrow.
- The forecast is for <50cm snow tomorrow along the Autoroute Blanche and 80cm+ up the bloody Alp we're driving up
- It's forecast to snow heavily at Geneva all weekend. I really do not want to spend Monday evening listening to "how much is that doggy in the window"
BTW, which town are you going to? We could watch your hire car exploits on their webcam

Les Saisies (up the valley past Megeve).
Webcam link here... http://www.lessaisies.com/webcams-les-saisies.html
It looks rather dark and grey there at the moment!!!!
Look for a VW Polo sometime tomorrow afternoon going like a bat of hell!
Les Saises, it's very nice there and much quieter than the bigger towns. Some excellent walks in the valleys and good for ski de fond and raquettes, and excellent if with children. Megeve's great but a little too 'bling' now. Have a great time in the Polo..."et quand en france, merde...!"Webcam link here... http://www.lessaisies.com/webcams-les-saisies.html
