-1 at 5am this morning and freezing fog all the way to Heathrow. Plane was de-iced twice. Used a screen cover last night - no scraping for me!

Grey and miserable in Milan!

Don't you just hate all these people from continental Europe showing off!

If it's going to be one of those winters where they get loads whilst we stand on damp ground looking on I won't be happy weeping
From what we've had so far it looks like it will sadly only be a maximum of a 5 month snow season rather than the 6 months one we had in 2010, 2011 and 2012, :'(

Glancing through the post listing, read this quickly, brain not fully computing...and read as...

"Well it's snowing in my part of Swindon now. st."

It stopped me in my tracks, thinking how did that happen...I know Swindon's an odd place but never knew they had they're own snowy micro-climate!
Easy to understand.. Swindon; cold shouldered by Reading and frosty attitude from Bristol.

We don't like Swinnigrants in Reading (people who live in Swindon for cheap house prices and commute to Reading)

Ah, very good. Never heard of that term before. It's a funny thing, understandable why folk would prefer to pay a lower house price, but Swindon? Surely not, it's such a soul less place. A family member lives in a fine village approx' 15mins from Swindon. Every time they go there they don't understand the local's language...I asked if this was due to the local dialect...no, they replied, it because no one speaks English!

I had the displeasure of working in Swindon during the late 80's, early 90's. My colleagues, most of whom were from the area, insisted on referring to the town as Swinetown or Pigs-ville Villas. I guess that says it all.

PS no offense should any of you actually live in Swinetown...I mean Pigs-ville Swindon.

My Boxster S fried its clutch in the middle of the magic roundabout about 10 years as I was on my way back from the BT office there. Cue lots of pointing and mirth from the locals as I tried to negotiate the rush hour traffic going round the eleventy billion mini roundabouts while trying to change gear at low speed with no clutch.

As a result, I don't like Swindon at all

AccuWeather said:
Another aspect of the upcoming winter season is that large and widespread damaging wind events are expected to be less common than last winter, which featured several noteworthy storms that caused damage from the British Isles into northern Europe.

While occasional shots of cold air will send temperatures tumbling across Ireland, the United Kingdom and France early in the winter, a persistent southerly flow caused by storms tracking near and north of Scotland will often result in near- to above-normal temperatures.

Fewer storms tracking across the United Kingdom and Ireland into northern Europe will lead to below-normal precipitation overall for the winter season, following the wettest winter on record across the United Kingdom last year.

Last week the pass was clear:

I might have to go for a drive this year to see some snow, but not up there obviously!

Can't find the Winter Tyre thread, so I'll post in here...

Anybody used Snowproxes? I can get some for £30 less per corner than Conti TS 850s, but would prefer to know if they're useless...

It's a real pain in the butt frown

Sadly, we are always right on the western edge of any colder weather and surrounded by a giant hot water bottle frown
we've been getting some advance notice at work about the possibility of a proper winter, we had a brief talk on the October pattern index which is pointing towards a cold winter, some american model runs that indicated chance of cold and now some talk of stratospheric warming which 'could' increase the chance of a cold period in mid December. For me the best indicator of a cold hard winter is the met office disagreeing and saying its going to be mild..

Out of whoosh avoidance I've held fire, but if I'm an idiot I know I'm not alone:

It's a dual carriageway. They're driving on the right.

Right, snow or no snow.

I'm getting close to buying new tyres for the D3. The current ones are decent AT tyres with snow capability designed in as standard, ( Thank's Goodyear ) but thinking is it better to change now or in spring.
