Walked up Great Gable on Saturday, on Friday it warmed up and rained a lot but there was still plenty of snow higher up and in pockets, a good 4 to 5 feet deep. I meant to check the news to see if the mountain rescue were out at all as seen a lot of poorly equipped people out, one group thought they were headed for Wasdale and they were headed towards Seathwaite/Borrowdale/Keswick i.e 100% in the wrong direction.
It was marginal at times whether crampons were required, and white out up the top with some light snow.
People can be naive in the hills, but in winter - when a slip without the means to self arrest means a good chance of dying, it does make you wonder. Does look rather special up there though. It was marginal at times whether crampons were required, and white out up the top with some light snow.
i'm loving the forecasts for next week, I'm planning to move house on wednesday!
On another note, I was up Great Gable last weekend! It was interesting trying to follow the invisible path... We saw all sorts of people up there, from fully kitted with ice axes at the ready, to fell runners in leggings and trainers (in a foot of snow).

Friday for us, I think here will be fairly sheltered, we tend to have the tips of Cumbria take the edge off things from the west and North, Pennines to the East so mainly its crappy sleey , rain and wind we're expectingGood luck with the move
On the face of it, this seems alarmist of Daily Express type proportions :-

Yet Piers Corbyn is signed up to the prediction, and he's usually on the money

If you want alarmist - 2 foot of snow is predicted on the NE coast of the USA (inc NY and Boston)

I honestly didn't. Was hoping for a dump prior, but not while we're there.
I'll get some photo's up if we get there and the snow falls as predicted!
