I'm driving to Sheffield tomorrow so that means it will piss it down with snow and I won't get there.

Perhaps the charts suddenly get a massive over night downgrade and Puggit's currently crying over them going "my cold spell, my poor cold spell, what happened to you?"
Is there any truth in the rumour that Puggit actually cries snow tears?

Temporary warm wave full of moisture, being pushed south by a cold front. Behind the cold front is a brutally cold wind.

Coldest temps due on Sunday.

There are some seriously nice charts out in the future...

Let's be honest, this 'event' is going to be very little for us southerners in the opening days. Some hope for Sunday/Monday though...

Is there still time for a weather system to drag cold air off the continent and blow snow into the SE this winter?

Or is the jetstream malarkey preventing this?

High pressure is forming in the mid-Atlantic, which is blocking the jet stream. The jet stream is diving south, giving rain to the Med - and allowing cold air in to us.

Some charts in Feb are showing an easterly - but this is not certain, not by a long way.

Hat eating aside, I think what it's going to turn into is probably really cold, freezing rain maybe and a bit of sleet. I cant see it being the snow the Met Office are warning of. I think there'll be some for higher areas, Pennines will get a bit battered, central Scotland too and they'll close bridges because of broccoli but no real significant showstopping snow.

And I look forward to this being quoted when I'm under 3 foot of the stuff of course

Hoping for a bit of snow here near Warrington. Forecasts can't seem to decide between rain or snow at the moment.

Very strong winds here around half 8 but have since died down.

OH MIGHTY SNOW GURUS OF PISTONHEADS! HEAR MY PLEA!

I've got a meeting tomorrow at 9am, what are the chances of heavy snow and limited ability to travel?

I'll be driving from Redditch (Birmingham) up to Leeds; taking the M1 at around 6am.

So, what are the chances?

If Puggit says there will snow, you'll be fine. Probably need your sunglasses.

Low chance of disruptive snow on that journey. However streaming snow may start up in localised conditions

Appear to be having frozen rain here but the droplets are absolutely tiny, I mean really tiny, weird.

According to my weather pro app it should be snowing here (Rossendale) but it's blowing a really strong wind and pissing down.

That amber warning just edges in to the top of North Yorkshire, near Hawes.
