My hometown, apparently "snowed in". Except the neighbours have managed to get out of their driveway and leave the street. Oh, the humanity.
To be fair, in the winter of 2010 I and all of my neighbours got snowed in in High Blantyre because no one could get up the hill. The snow wasn't much deeper than your picture. After a week or so, the council cleared the spine road up the hillside, but people still couldn't get off their little tributary roads to it - due to said hilliness.

Eventually I spent an afternoon hacking up all the ice that the compacted snow had turned into just so our street could get up our little bit of the hill to the spine road (which was now a car park).

Did anyone come out and help or say thanks? Did they bks. That's new build estate community spirit right there. Luckily I knew I was moving a few months later.

My phone is telling me that it's going to snow here around 2pm (Henley).

I'm guessing this is bks.
Most likely.

The winds are NW to SE, which means any snow for our area has to travel across North Wales. There are some small hills there which are intercepting our precipitation frown

Plus the sun is slowly warming us up...

However, still plenty to play for. The weekend's weather is far from understood. There's a small, but real, chance of a low pressure system in the South (particularly the SW) bringing something. MetOffice talking about 30% at the moment. Likely to be rain though.

it's none stop snow in Leeds at the minute. According to the met office it's due to be like this all day. Taking some people over 3 hours to do something like 7 miles into work.

Going to wait till lunch and make a decision then!

I'm only about 4 miles from you, I couldn't even get out the estate this morning. Didn't expect that tbh.
Where do you live?

Just started again in North Staffs. If it continues much longer I'll bravely run home. In the car.

Is it likely to continue tomorrow / into the weekend? I was planning on going to Manchester (by car) tomorrow afternoon.

I've been wondering how long it would take before they put this up. What's more interesting for the S/SE, is next Tuesday.

Bloody great rolleyes

  • We are due to leave LHR at 0855
  • Land at Geneva at 1135. Geneva airport is notorious for being rubbish at snow clearance. There is lots of snow forecast for Geneva tomorrow.
  • The forecast is for <50cm snow tomorrow along the Autoroute Blanche and 80cm+ up the bloody Alp we're driving up
  • It's forecast to snow heavily at Geneva all weekend. I really do not want to spend Monday evening listening to "how much is that doggy in the window"
The only upside is we have a fully insured hire car fitted with winters and chains. I WILL get us to the town come hell or high water!

You'll be fine. GVA's not that bad and the Autoroute Blanche is rarely closed. A FWD hire car with winters and chains is the fastest winter hack known to man. Once spent a crazy week in Megeve driving a truly knackered Renault 5 with super chunky winter tyres. The little 1.4 litre rust bucket was unstoppable...especially after the 4th or 5th l'eau de vie wink

BTW, which town are you going to? We could watch your hire car exploits on their webcam smile
