The Official Winter Snow Thread 2014/2015
Discussion
Left the peace and tranquility of the channel islands to come up to the third big smoke (Manchester) and through the inky darkness of the aircraft (ATR) window managed to see about 3cm of slush covering the airport apron. Is that what you lot get excited about? Really? Off to York tomorrow (apparently the centre of the universe according to people who live there) hoping to see a bit more of the white stuff.
Its not a Winter Snow thread without at least one DJRC adventure
Things I learnt today:
1. You can drift a Fiat 500L. Who knew?!
2. Don't ever drift a 500L on an Autostrada in a blizzard. Its fking terrifying.
Ive avoided the weather out at site until now this winter, but got smacked by it Friday afternoon trying to get home. As usual its a semi marathon, involving a 2hr drive/sprint across Italy to Rome down from the Appenines, a battle round the GRA, wait the obligatory minimum of 30mins as the plane is delayed, then either a 3hr tube dash across London and train up north, or 90min drive from Heathrow. Drove through a properly nasty blizzard on the strada from Avezzano to Rome and on the worst section. An S bind type Viaduct/bridge affair over a valley. So driving blizzard and winds. And the damn car was drifting in the snow and wind. That was fun.
Got back upto the Midlands last night when suddenly Im looking sideways out of the 55! Ten mins from home and Im driving into more snow.
