That level crossing is slippery in the wet coming from ponds forge round towards stone, and the right turn after the level crossing is tight too. Done right you can get a good S shaped drift around there ( best done at night so you can see headlights of other cars to know its safe/not safe to do)

I had to follow someone doing 35 in a 60 all the way to work. On roads totally devoid of snow or ice
I feel your pain.I had to endure 10mph behind an mx5 for 12 miles on country roads to the train station, a journey which normally takes approx 20 minutes took about an hour... only to get to the station to find the trains were buggered and i had to return home, albeit this time following a vw polo doing 8mph... and i'm in a RWD BMW FFS!!
What was the overnight temperature?
The first time you'll know about ice on the road is when you are on it.
We actually got a little bit of snow in South Wilts today, huzzah, though nothing compared to MBH!
Finally a chance to try the winters out though.
I was absolutely fine, being careful but still managing to get the tail out and have some fun.
But I concur with other posts, other people SERIOUSLY do not know how to drive in the snow around here! I was using 3rd at some points, but the amount people I saw spinning their wheels out of junctions made me shake my head in disbelief.

And just WHAT is that number plate? Part 'shopped?
(Although it wouldn't be your first dodgy one, would it)?
Just altered to stop scroats, but not in the nasty way most people do it! (Although it wouldn't be your first dodgy one, would it)?

Someone managed to roll their car onto it's roof, nearby to Walters Ash!
Probably going down one of the hills too fast?Gaz. said:
Don't MX5's have pretty good steering feel and BMW's not so good/bloody awful/delete as appropriate... that may have been a clue to your differing perception of an appropriate speed?
In my MX-5 I have had idiots up my chuff when I can feel the back wheels sliding slightly (with spiked new that year winter tyres). So it could be part of the reason. That said, the weight of the car would be somewhat different too.Looks like some people are having fun in the snow... sorry for the Daily wail link, may be NSFW:
