Really awesome picture GetCarter!

This is my snow picture (or rather a friend's) to try and compete! wink As you can see the snow pack is starting to retreat from the sea, but still got a month or so of the stuff for skiing if we walk a little bit. Quite a few of the last trips have involved skiing on heather for sections - the trick is to avoid rocks and keep your weight back when going over marshy bits as the water causes the skis to stick and slow down very quickly!

It's not a sea horizon, you're looking at land on the right - closer far right than middle. smile

But of course smile

The great thing about snow this time of year is that when I got up, the roads had been plowed, and were just damp.

They'd started steaming when I went out about 9.30a.m., and were pretty dry by noon.

My drive is now nice and clear, without me having to lift a finger.

The neighbours tree has broken a branch due to the weight of wet snow, but that's the only downside I've seen so far.

That's always useful, nice not to have to spend ages before work cleaning the drive in case it gets filled too much when you're out during the day.

Still snow on the mountains round here, but lower levels have nothing now (below approximately 200m depending what direction the slope is facing). Means we are skiing over plants and water in some sections to join up the patchy snow at the bottom.

Plenty of snow in the hills here; they got a foot or so on Sunday.

The other comic thing about the weather is that it's going to be 18c today, and 24c on Tuesday.

Gratuitous steamy ground pic.

BBC said:
Every El Nino is different, and once one has started, models can predict how it might develop over the next six to nine months, with a reasonable level of accuracy.

Another strong El Nino event was expected during last year's record-breaking temperatures, but failed to materialise.
hehe So does this mean when could have sun during the summer and rain/snow during the winter? Just like the past few hundred years?

It feels like it's been a cold May and June isn't starting any better, heating has been on most nights.

Forecasts warning of gales and lots of rain tonight. Doesn't look good at all for June.

Puggit and co - any ideas about next winter yet? The reason I ask is because a work colleague of mine was saying today that someone has forecast the worst winter in a long, long time. Don't know how that can be said for certain yet. smile
