Anyone know if I'll find snow in the Peak District tomorrow? I live near Worksop/Mansfield so want to find some snow.
Raining right now at 350ft, I'm sure over the tops the rain will be snow (as it was earlier in the day). Roads have all remained open all week despite sometimes heavy and persistent snow showers, however I would exercise caution on the roads as the cold has opened up a few potholes as well the weather.

Not yet, it's not. There's a bloody good chance that Southern areas will see temps in the low teens in Christmas Day. There are still signals for cold into Jan and Feb, but nothing nailed on at all at the moment.

Well, the winter tyres on the subaru are proving their worth. Every morning this week I've had to drive for over a mile on sheet ice. Wet evenings and freezing nights suck!

Now where's the real snow?! irked

How can it be the coldest for 50 years?! I thought last year was supposed to be the coldest for 100 years, so that doesn't make sense at all!

The mail says the same yet it still seems reasonably mild for this time of year!! Now I know th newspapers love to speculate but even I think they've gone completely bonkers!!

Snow here. Inch or so, settling quite nicely. Hovering JUST above freezing though, so it should melt fairly quickly tomorrow.

Nothing of note for the UK this week. We're pretty much stuck in a pattern at the moment with the Azores High nudging closer than normal and a large low pressure in the North Atlantic - this combo will enforce westerly winds, although sometimes NW or SW. Mid-week looks really quite mild.

For Christmas, it's too far out to be certain, but chances are it will be green. However, some charts continue to tantalise with white theories.

Still plenty of chatter about proper winter weather arriving after Christmas.

Yesterday a severe frost & ice for tonight was forecast, now +3 degrees and dry. If they can't get it right 24 hours in advance there is no hope of accurately forecasting Jan & Feb.

Automated forecast or Netweather's written style ones?

Mostly rain forecast for the next few days but some snow in Scotland and a bit in Cumbria on Saturday.

I've just been told by someone in the office that it is going to 15 degrees this weekend... any truth to that. The way the frost has been coming down here I find it hard to believe.

Yes. There going to be a warm spell for 36 / 48 hours or so. 15c might be a little strong, but there is good potential of 12 - 14c in the South

The warmer period starts tonight - it'll then cool down again for the weekend.

The charts for Xmas continue to tease. There's an outside chance of snow for Xmas day, the north and hills being favoured as per normal. Boxing Day could see more widespread white stuff.

A pattern change for something longer in terms of wintry weather seems to still be on course - but is beyond the time for being sure.
