Name & adress....

Lots of companies are requesting this info, all they are doing is building a database that they can flog it for loads of money. Information is a valuable commodity these days so they are screwing people for as much as they can get.
Trouble is a lot of people are stupid and just rattle it off without thinking and then wonder why they are plagued by telephone calls and junk mail.
I just refuse point blank, if they won't sell me anything then their tough st when they are claiming jsa after the company goes bust.

I normally use NR1 3JG (Anglia TV).
NE1 2AL fo me. The now demolished Tyne Tees TV studios in Newcastle. I think the code has been decommissioned now as it doesn't come up onnew Sat Navs.If I am asked an address and can't be bothered to say no, I give them the address of the house I lived in as a kid.
If there is no legitimate reason for them to know then I used to give a false name and address until challenged when my credit card had a different name on it
Now I only falsify my name if paying cash, however always, always give the same street address I lived in aeons ago which is converted into 10 bedsits
cheers
As mentioned earlier it's all in the name of moving towards a "single customer view" for marketing purposes.
It's easy for companies to profile individuals who buy online, as giving email/address info over at the checkout stage is standard procedure. But what if they buy in-store 90% of the time? You won't have a holistic representation of their buying habits & communications between you and that customer. You could send them 10 emails offering promotional online discounts, but it still wouldn't be as effective as giving them a receipt with £5 off their next in-store purchase, for example.

Had this happen in a yard a while ago, wouldnt sell me a couple of planks of bloody wood until i gave them a car registration. Gave them one i'd scrapped 20 years ago. Yard guy saw as i was leaving and gave it the " you shouldn't have done that mate" bks.
Why?
Seriously, fkING WHY. For a couple of pieces of fking wood. Who gives a fk what vehicle takes it away? Private customer, not paying trade rates, for a job in my own garden. There is no logical reason i can think of for this information being needed. Anyway, long story short i bummed his dog. There's something very wrong with the world when we put up with this sort of petty nonsense and i suspect i'm not the only one who's fed up of it. Maybe it's an age thing, so much privacy has been lost in the last few years.
To be fair this does have a reason. the local builders yard does it and you have to hand in copy of the receipt at the gate as well. It's due to the thieving gits helping themselves and trying to drive out with a load. Why?

What would be a legitimate reason? I have never been asked my name and adress when purchasing something and would not provide it if asked, as its none of their business. Yes and? I don't have to provide any details to TV licencing so I don't need to provide details to the person selling me a TV.
Errr, yes, you do.But literally no-one will care if you give them a false one. Most retailers even have a "stock" fake name and address for one systems require one (eg MR X Declined, AA11AA)
