I've managed to ignore Shelbyville (or 'Tynemouth', as you lot like to call it) for absolutely years, but having put in a couple of visits recently, it really is a lovely little place. It's on my list of places I'd like to live.

Anyways.

South Shields; It's Not As st As Everyone Says.
You can't buy your way in. You have to be related to at least three people and have connections to local business and DNA that goes back to the days God grew up here.

A previous Chief Constable at Northumbria Police used to joke with me about the weekly letter from Tynemouth, full of demands and orders. He instructed the police cars travelling to and from North Shields and Whitley Bay nicks to drive diwn Front Street on their way from and to Shields and the Bay just to keep locals happy because there weren't enough police on the beat. Pre 1974 Tynemouth managed its own affairs with its own council and police force. Locals have never got over this.

As for South Shields, I love the place, especially the Steam Boat on Mill Dam. Ocean Road, the beach Marsden the Nook, even the Law Top are canny.

Bromley. In London. No it isn't. Yes it is. No it isn't. Yes it is.

Chislehurst. Bromley's "Hove actually".

"Near Gatwick" - where people from Crawley say they come from.

Basingstoke: You've come off the M3 too soon for Winchester.

Bracknell really is worse. I've worked there for years.

That's my point though. No one "in" Basingstoke actually works. They just waft around Festival Place, apparently waiting for something to happen until their next benny.
