The main trouble with Basingstoke is not that it's scummy, or crime-ridden, or particularly a bad place, just that it's not good in any way. It's just so beige.

It's the sort of place an accounting clerk will set up in his 3 bed semi, with his wife, two kids and Vauxhall Astra.

The sort of place where schoolkids grow up dreaming of working in a bank, rather than being a footballer/astronaut/racing driver.

It's just too middle of the road. Too boring.

But nail on the head with that description. There are some really stty places to live where at least you know you'd have more fun than living in one of the generic estates, just off the medium sized roundabout, you know near a smallish office complex somewhere in Basingstoke.

Many of my mates in Hampshire refer to Basingstoke as Basingrad as it's considered dull and with too much concrete. I've not been there for many years, so I don't know if that's fair or not.
