So our local 'Spotted' Facebook site has (for some reason) posted up that tiresome urban myth about houses being marked by burglars who don't break in but very charitably just inform other burglars of the break in potential for no obvious reason by leaving special coded chalk markings. Allegedly.

Despite a couple of people pointing out the absurdity of this notion, the local fkwits are having a field day with it.

Just a couple of my favourites from the 150+ posts (and 900 shares!) I'm not sure why I've edited out names given they've posted this nonsense in the public domain - guess I feel embarrassed for them. biggrin

Friend of a friend of a friend on Facebook. I guess the 105 likes are people that don't mind their council tax being wasted.
Also, I'm sure those lights are there for a reason.
Its all bullst anyway, that's a SolaBoll which is a solar powered one-piece unit.

Chaps just installed a new one with the old one in-front of him and by the looks of things the jobs almost done!
What BS fest is this?
That's not a "SolaBoll", it's a Glasdon Signmaster and its lit from the bottom by a baselight that's set into the Tarmac. There's nothing solar about it. He'll be replacing them because that type gets dirty quickly and are hard to clean up, thanks to the type of plastic used. Once they're past a certain point of no longer being very white or visible they are replaced (TFL actually jet wash their's in situ periodically).
The same power supply will be supplying both keep left bollards and the Belisha beacon. Is the OP pictured talking about the fuse for the Belisha or the bollard?
The likelihood that he grabbed his tools, snapped the bollard free of the base, opened it and removed the potted fuse whilst not isolating the power supply is I would suggest, minimal. The fuse for the Belisha (possibly also has an LED-lit post as well in this case) is kept in the base of the post. You can see the door in the picture on the far side of the post at the wider base section. I highly doubt he went fishing around in there with a screw driver, either.
If he writes to his local council street lighting department with a legitimate case regarding the light spillage from the Belisha, the contractor will be instructed to fit a shroud that reduces the light emission to non traffic facing directions like left and right, in this case.

The lights are there for a reason but in the case of British standards for street lighting and road furniture, it's not always a very good one.

FFS.

Our local fktards are well past 1,000 shares of the house marking nonsense and still going strong whipping themselves into a frenzy of panic over it.

It hasn't occurred to any of them that despite such widespread hysteria, not one single person has said that it's happened to them! biggrin

And that's a Signature Solar Trueflex. I helped (in a very small way) with the development of that product. That unit actually is self contained and solar powered. By no longer running on street power, it is conveniently no longer the problem of the street lighting department, but transfers to the Highways department. A good way to reduce the council street lighting budget.

You would not be at all amazed how inneffective bollard knowledge is at holding the attention of a laydee.

Can you thank him for approving of such gems as this,

Guys better show respect if they see man pulling up in a TT
Guys better show respect if they see man filling up in BP
£20 of diesel mate, if I fill up my tank it'll make me late
They produced it, not wrote it.

I know JME, he was a member here until as with PH tradition he was hounded out by the old boys.
Really? that's a shame he's been a sound guy the times I've spoken to him

I have no idea about the veracity of these scare stories, they probably are all nonsense. However, I can tell you with 100% absolute certainty that this was once a thing.

I bow to your superior bollard knowledge. I confused the FB post bollard with this:

I'm not street lighting so a fairly easy mistake to make!

The Solar Trueflex bollards are the biggest heap of ste that we've ever invested in in our area with half of them having lost their 'spring' and drooping about all over the place! Responsibility of them still lies with street lighting at my spot though which is why they've stopped using them.

Is it definitely the Solar Trueflex or the TMP solar flecta you're having problems with? I would have expected more issues with the latter, especially with the spring base. They look very very similar.
