Mind you, if you'd done a poll in the 70s, I'd lay odds that more than 20% of Irish immigrants (and maybe 5% of the general population) would have expressed support for the IRA.
I agree and that would be equally as outrageous in my view ( N.I. is one part of the UK I will never ever return to)It is natural and normal to want to integrate and be at one.
Or at least it ought to be.
We spend about 2-4 months of every year in Turkey and we live when in the UK in the villages outside of Leicester. We also have property and business interests in Turkey including Istanbul and the coast.
I have seen more headscarves, niqabs and religious ferverance within 10 square miles of our house in the UK than I ever have in any part of the Islamic county I spend a huge amount of time in!

I don't think bradford is all that bad to be honest.
I think the "problem" with the asian population of Bradford is that they seem to be heavily concentrated in certain pockets of the city rather than being spread out a bit thinner. You can literally drive a few hundred yards down certain roads and be either in a predominantly white area or predominantly asian area. This in itself breeds a lot of the racial hatred. Also as with most of the old industrial towns half the city centre looks derelict as it recovers from the industries that collapsed some years ago. Its getting there slowly though.
I am about to move to a suburb of Bradford called Baildon, I should by right be on the whole "Bradford os ste" bandwagon as i have lived in Leeds all my life but the place is really lovely.
There is one negative point about Bradford though which is a gross generalisation but i don't care as its 100% fact. EVERYONE drives like a knobhead!

Call me old fashioned but growing up in the 70s, it never occurred to me that I'd be a victim of racism in my own country.
I'd like to think that I'd be open minded enough to hate all my daughters boyfriends equally
It might not be racism. They might just not like you as an individual. I can understand how that would happen. I'd like to think that I'd be open minded enough to hate all my daughters boyfriends equally

How can I put this in a politically correct way? How what this allow to happen? I mean yes, sure, my very basic understanding is that asian people were needed in the mills in the 50s and 60s but jeeeeze! If every major UK city modelled itself on Bradford you'd literally feel like it wasn't the UK anymore.
It's such a sensitive subject- and the racism card is played a lot. It's not being racist, I just think of it another way. If a huge influx of white people descended on a city in Pakistan, how would they feel? Again, it wouldn't be multiculturalism would it? The few remaining would just feel bitter, I'm sure of it.
When Pakistan colonise Britain (god forbid), the example you give will be valid! It's such a sensitive subject- and the racism card is played a lot. You guys seem to forget the wealth Britain 'procured' from India just because they felt they deserved it. Yes, Bradford is ste, but look at white areas that were booming during industrial times that had factories closed, they are stty too.... It's nothing to do with the colour or race of people there..... Had you shipped a bunch of whites in need of work there instead, it would still likely be as run down and ste as it is today.
Do you honestly believe that there are no horrid areas with white people? Some parts of Liverpool I saw were squalid, and not a coloured person in sight.

It's ok, the "I'm not racist but..." poster above seems to think Salford/Walkden is an amazing location. So, really, I think we can work out what he doesn't like about Bradford. And it's not that it is a poorer socioeconomic area.

Threads can be so frustrating! I have clearly mentioned that there are clearly TONS of 'white' areas in the UK equally stty. But the point time and time again that I am making that if the reverse happened in Pakistan, the Pakistani community wouldn't like it either. I don't know what the sodding word it but very clearly racism isn't it for god's sake! So, really, I think we can work out what he doesn't like about Bradford. Yes, because all white people having no souls, their deeply held view, is because they disliked me before they knew me.Not, because they retained their nasty little racist views once admitted to my country?

AM I missing something or are you just stating the "bleedin' obvious"?There are crappy white areas in the UK
There are crappy asian areas in the UK
If we were to introduce a crappy "white" area into a predominantly asian area "they" wouldn't like it?
Well knock me down with a feather...

Born in Dewsbury, brought up in Batley and living in Huddersfield you'd think i'd have been de-senstitised and prepared for three years at Bradford college but no, Bradford really is the sttiest of st holes!
