The Asian community don’t tend to live on Thorpe edge, buttershaw, holmewood. They still seem to hold out as defiantly white areas. Holmewood, basically of yr not from there: you wouldn’t be moving there !!!

Having been to virtually all of the Uk , I’d say most cities are similar or if not far worse. Bradford is an amazingly rural place with many beautiful places to live. Problem is the dirt poor parts are literally the city centre and the few mile’s surrounding it. So that’s what any visitors see.

I do think it’s quite a divided city though. One problem upcoming is the increase in Albanians and the sheer poverty they bring.
Yep -what I am saying., The centre is very much Asian, the outer suburbs very much less and the estates, very very much less (as you know chap).

You can see the shift in demographics by driving down Little Horton Lane. Start at the Dog and Gun and the next pub you meet is in the Square -. All the pubs in between have closed as the white population moved out of that area. That exacerbates the division sadly.

It breaks my heart of see it as it is now, but it is a reflection on a post industrial town, where the population of any ethnicity has been left behind.

Agree. It's like cities everywhere - has good parts and less desirable parts.

I've driven in Bradford for about 30 years now and been a passenger there before I could drive, it's got worse over the years for sure.

But... I've been driving in Heckmondwike on and off for the past couple of months and my word that's a whole new level of scary.

You’re getting the full benefit of Batley and Dewsbury when you’re in Heckmondwike!

Asian is such a broad term. Last time I looked, there were no Indians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Thai, Cambodians, etc. The only 'Asians' are Pakistanis.

Some Bangladeshi and India families as well, but yes 20% are Pakistani.

From 2011 census so a bit dated; their words rather than mine.

What is scary about Hecky specifically? I'm near Clecky and am there fairly often either in my car or on my scooter and never had any issues confused .

Same, I’m on the outskirts of Cleck and never really fussed by Hecky, it’s far preferable to actual bradford.

That links to a 2023 census, no?

Asians have the second largest proportion in the racial distribution of population. 20.41% of the Asians belong to Pakistan, 2.59% of population is from India, Bangladeshis make up 1.89% of the populace, 0.40% of people belong to China and the rest 1.54% came from other Asian countries.

Apparently 75% of the Asian population of Bradford don't belong to anything.

By having a proportion of 45.9%, majority of the population of Bradford is the follower of Christianity. After Christians, Muslims make up the second largest populace ratio of 24.7%. Other religious make up includes 1.0% Sikh, 0.9% of Hindu, 0.2% Buddhist and 0.1% of Jews.

I'm just going to call them the Pakistani community. The other browns wouldn't be in that community. Therefore it is wrong to generalise with the term 'Asian' or 'Asian community'.

No, because there wasn't a census in 2023.

Yup, I live in Dewsbury and can confirm.

A town full of the morbidly obese that can't support McDonald's or "Heron foods "in a prime position.

A town full of junkies that can't support a "Cash Converters"

A town full of pensioners (nothing wrong with those) that's recently seen its bingo hall, "Mecca" shut.

A town packed with the professionally unemployed that can't support "Poundland" or "Poundstretcher" shops, both recently closed.

A town full of alcoholics that can't support a Wetherspoons (and if Tim Martin can't make a sustainable profit with his pub/cafe/pizza house/steak house etc. you know your town has problems!)

However, if you need vape shops, low standard takeaway food shops, mobile phone shops or your car hand washed, you're spoilt for choice!

House prices are low though...

£100k for a 1 bed back to back terrace is not my definition of low house prices ! hehe

I used to live in Ravensthorpe off North Road near Butt's offy about 15 years ago. I think I was the only white guy for half a mile. Awesome Pakistani neighbours whose grandma seemed to spend her entire life making far too much home-made curry, bhajis and popadoms which meant I ate for free much of the time smile . Never had any trouble walking down to Supasaver or Zam Zam's at the lights at any hour of the day or night.

Don't you dare mention Batley in the same breath as those mouth-breathers!

For the record - born and bred in Batley, played cricket for Hecky for over 20 years and my first house was at the back of the Grammar school before I moved further afield to Hightown

None of them are on a par with Dewsbury or Ravensthorpe for the sheer level of crappiness

I suspect it's because my sat nav is obsessed with trying to save me 30 seconds on each trip and because I'm unfamiliar with the area I believe it - I seem to be off the main roads quite a bit and on the roads encircling the cemetery. I just find a lot of people cutting corners, coming straight for me, spending ages blocking roads while parking badly, driving too close, just randomly stopping to chat to a mate, the standards just seem lower than I'm used to but maybe it's just more concentrated.

The main road bits seem like anywhere else but as soon as I'm off them it's like everyone is joyriding.

I don't know, I'm originally from Huddersfield and now live in Leeds but i've spent many years working in and around Dewsbury, Batley, Heckmondwike, Ravensthorpe and all the areas in and between and I don't think Batley stands out as being significantly better than the others, it was a sad day when the Frontier closed though, I could tell some stories about nights out there.

Actually having typed that I will give you Batley is a lot better than Dewsbury but the bar is set very low by Dewsbury.

Not sure why a previous poster particuarly targets Heckmondwike, there's not much to say about it apart from it's a costant queue of traffic whichever way you try to go through it.

Girlfriend grew up in Heckmondwike and Dewsbury and moved to Stockton on Tees around 7 years ago.

She waxes lyrical about how beautiful and friendly Stockton and Middlesbrough are compared to the aforementioned Yorkshire boltholes.

Take from that what you will as we regularly hit the top ten worse places to live up here for some reason.
