Heck I would have just ordered a set from ebay.

less than £8 delivered for a set 1/4" drive sockets (probably made in the same factory as clarke etc)

In hindsight so would I.

I did meet one assistant at MM Croydon, an guy about 55, white skinny miserable git, who no matter how I tried, used to just be the most off putting aid in any shop anywhere.

MM are good for cheap chinese made cr4p.
I don't expect quality from them, at all.

They probably pay the worst wages on the planet.
As I read the OP I thought of that guy. laugh

The whole shopping experience is just bad. Can't just pay for something, they HAVE to take your address and send you catalogues in the post. For a £5 tub of swarfega! Completely unnecessary and puts me off going in to the shop for anything small. Like OP Ordered something years ago. Said it would be a couple days give you as call. Never did 2 weeks later went in and it was there ready to collect.

I don't hate the Clarke stuff btw. Fine for low useage items. The whole shop is rally just "know what you want" before you go in. But I find for the home kit I'm getting more and more Halfords since it's just a better experience to shop there.

to make sure stuff I design can actually be built and assembled by the guys in the yard.
Where's the fun in that? Much more entertaining to have a fitter stamp into the drawing office with a big lump of expensively machined stainless steel and a drawing wanting to know "are you the wker that designed this?" hehe

I did notice that the packet of mince I bought to make my own had a security tag on it.
OT - I was defrosting some mince in the microwave and only when the sparks started did I notice the RFID tag embedded in the label on the front...

I did this to Eurocarparts.

They're well known for the online discount they offer, so I always ask at the counter if they can match the price on the screen. If you get someone with a bit of intelligence this is an easy negotiation, however it can be bloody awkward.

I work 5 minutes away from a trade depot.

Walk in and approach the bloke at the counter; explaining what I need (I think it was a droplink or similar). Pulls part up on the screen and tells me the price. It's about 50% out. I asked for the price to be matched.

"Sorry sir we can't do that, the discount only applies to online customers"

So I order the part online using my phone for collection in the depot where I'm bl**dy standing instead. Took about 15 minutes to process but it was quite satisfying.

I've done that in PC World before. Although I told a mate, he did the same thing, and they said it takes up to 24hrs for online orders to be available for collection. Until the item was picked off the shelf by a member of staff, and marked available, he wouldn't be able to have it.

Pick one up at the store.
Call your bank and say you didn't authorise the initial payment for the order.

they'll refund you immediately

Leave MM to sort out the mess.

I wonder how they ever manage to sell anything. I went into the customer free Glasgow shop recently to buy a milling machine. The guy was standing at the counter poking at his phone and totally ignored me. After inspecting the machines etc, still ignored by the phone poker I walked out, logged on the good old net and bought the same machine for less cost from Axminster Tools . Emailed their head office with my comments, no reply. I reckon it's run as a tax loss for someone.
