I bet not many "young folk" today have had to do that - let alone young folk in 15 years time.

I had to in my first Mini, pull out and turn 90' to the right to lock it smile

Also a lever choke on my NC30 400 and CBR 400 NC29.

Good old smooth carbs

Edit: should add I'm 32.

I would add physical media (CD's DVD's for films and games etc) will die out once decent fast broadband becomes the norm....so about 2250 then.....fecking BT

When I explained to my (5yr old) daughter what a phone-box was and why we used to use them she just looked at me and asked "Was that in the olden days?". I've never felt so old.

She also calls CDs "DVDs with just music on". She'd never seen one until I dug out a few to take in the car.

Yep - that's my point. It's kinda outside the context of the OPs post.

The OP seemed to be asking - what are the common things that 18-20 somethings use today, the go to technology, things they take for granted - that will be obsolete or uncommon for 18-20 somethings in 15 years time.

Things like phone boxes etc are good examples of this. Mobile phones were just starting to take off 15 years ago and most teens probably couldn't afford one and used phone boxes when out and about. Now - you'd be hard pressed to find a phone box and virtually every teen has a mobile.

Suggestions like 8 track tapes and manual chokes are outside of this context as they aren't the go-to technology today (and in the case of 8 track tapes - weren't 15 or even 30 years ago).

Lots of tins come with a ringpull these days, I guess that's what's meant?
Yes.
Shame that they don't always work. On occasions, I've managed to pull off the ring without actually opening the can. The pain. frown

I had to use a phone box a year or so ago, can't remember why but my mobile had run out or whatever. It was at a motorway services and a crowd of kids actually gathered outside to see what was going on hehe

I suspect so, will get phased out. New generation will access these (newspapers and magazines) digitally. Well - you already can.
Same goes for the books.

I know, everything and far more is available on tinterweb these days, but there was something just so simple and effective about Ceefax/Teletext (until it froze on you).

Mind you, I don't miss having to look for last minute holiday deals on there (and dealing with my mum when she gets the phone bill at the end of the month).

I saw one of these on a walk out in the countryside somewhere a little while ago - great idea if you ask me (assuming BT are too tight to pay for the upkeep of it as an actual phonebox anymore), rather than it being ripped out and snapped up by some collector to go in their front garden.

When was the last time you saw a toilet with a pull chain?
This morning, in my shower room. The grandchildren love the idea of pulling the chain.

P.S. You can even get them at B&Q.
Nothing quite like the force of 1.5m of water to shift a scale replica of the bismark. also sound much better too.

I remember, not even that long ago, before the freeview boxes came out. All the TV channels would actually switch off at a certain time and teletext would be displayed.

The half Penney coin has been gone thirty years already. Time the to rid of the other copper coins. Utterly pointless metal pocket litter.

I completely forgot about the Ceefax.

Pagers, do these still get used in the hospitals/nursing homes?

Books.

I have an annoying child for a colleague who seems proud of the fact that he's "never read a book".

Apparently everything worth knowing is on youtube or some bogcast or other.

So sad. And so wrong.

I didn't know that teletext was gone!

That makes me feel old. I remember my grandfather trying to work out how to use it. It had already been out for about 20 years at the time though.
