I sold some stuff on ebay earlier this week. £90. Hurrah.

Buyer emails me afterwards to say that now he's checked, he doesn't have the money to pay. Could I cancel the auction.

Oh FFS. I offer it to the second bidder; no response. I go back to the winner and tell him he's won and he has to pay.

And I get told (with crap spelling and grammar corrected) in response: I can't pay; if you [ie me] had mates pushing up the bidding [I hadn't] you've broken the TOS; you can wait a month and maybe I can pay you; open a case if you like but I don't have money and will say that you had mates pushing up the price; I have "finance problems"; you're not a nice person. All with a little smiley face at the end.

What a fking oxygen-thieving waste of space wktard. Why can't s like this be thrown on the nearest bonfire?

/rant.

Yup - welcome to Ebay.

As stated above - just cancel it, relist and move on.

It can be useful to request contact details in such situations, if you don't want to relist.

Sometimes you get a genuine address and mobile number.

Usually prompts better behaviour from a buyer.

I never follow up the details (ie ring or write to them).

The fact that they know that you have their details is usually sufficient.

Slightly off topic, I was looking around Ebay last night and found some chancer selling MG parts using a picture of my car lifted off my web page!
Ebay listing rules say you cannot do this as it's breach of copyright, I emailed asking him to remove the picture from the listing before I report it, a bit petty I know but; get your own photos!!

Well, that was a mistake.
An amicable 'buyer changed his mind' case is a lot easier than coming down heavy. You'll probably loose your 10% final value fee now cos he won't cooperate.

Re-list & move on.

It's not petty at all, this is another big problem on eBay. I've had my listing photos copied by other sellers, and had my actual text descriptions copied too. I'd just report it straight away I'm afraid.

Just wait however many days he has to pay. Then report . You'll get the fees back. Relist .
Just follow the process and dont talk to anyone as it's a waste of time.

This. Open the case after 4 days to get your fee back & relist. Last thing you want to do is ship goods to a twerp under duress as that will only go one way

File the non paying bidder thing somewhere, after a few strikes, he'll get kicked off.

I don't know if it's as easy as that, as they do need some sort of bank card backing these days.

This is why most sellers are pissed off when eBay removed the ability to give negative feedback.

And yup fill in a non-payer form. I used to let them off, but fk it! It costs me money to sell.

Does the fact that they're a non paying bidder show on their profile anywhere?
I had somebody win my mx5 roof and then realised it was 200 miles away. I got my relisting fee and reported her, but it seems to have had little consequence for her.

I don't know if it shows, but you can set your preferences to block non-paying bidders. So all the s that have been reported previously can't hid on your sale. So yes its better if all sellers report non-payers as it does help.

I don't think it shows, but it's something like 3 non paying bidder strikes before you get banned.

just can't understand why some people buy things, but then make all types of excuses as to why they can't pay.
get it quite a bit as a seller, some buyer asked for a car part {inlet manifold for one of those rubbish peugeot 1.6hdi cars}
then offers half the asking price as long as I bungle a few other rubber o rings, for free of course.as i have quite a few to sell
I thought may as well get a sale, after a few pictures sent, agreeing a price another couple of emails, all taking my time....he buys but never pays?
total time waster.
