It has yes, the old Ford factory is now churning out Evoques and Discos. The borough of Halton seems to be widening its split, with investment going to the Widnes side of the Mersey and Runcorn being left to wither away. My family all moved out to the sticks in rural cheshire thankfully when they could. But it is sad when you see a once vibrant market town from my youth reduced to a shuttered wasteland. I witnessed the current vibe at 9am one morning when people were queuing up to get into "the Wine Bar" Utterly vile and depressing in equal measure. The picture below from GE shows what it is like now, in the 80's as a kid this would be heaving with people, with great shops and bustle.

It would show a narrow boat, a canal lock, a caravan site and the police helicopter hovering overhead so everyone knew the vans were pie people.
