My postie is some kind of Middle Aged iron man contender.

He runs his round. That's right, runs it. Every step of the way. He runs up to the door and is gone in a flash having deposited the bloke over the roads copy of razzle through my door.

I can never catch the bd to tell him it's not my porn

So to answer the question, I reckon he's got years left, he's fit as a fiddle

Amazon postman is this for the uk?
iirc amazon in the UK has a three way split between RMLetters, Parcelf force and one of the others ... simply because the volumes they are doing are so massive

in line with the poster who said they wanted a yes vote ( and for RM Head Office the opportunity to off load the high cost highland and islands USO stuff) I do wonder if at some point they will try and push for a 5 day USO commitment but continue to offer a volume dependent 6th day for suburbia

Amazon have their own delivery service (Amazon Logistics) within the M25, maybe other areas as well? They deliver 7 days a week, although RM & PF are currently trialling Sunday parcel deliveries in certain areas.

I know OFCOM are looking into the USO as at the moment RM are trying to either get it scrapped or adjusted to make TNT Post (now known as Whistl) to comply with it, but their findings aren't due out till late next year (irrc)

Funny that a US saying can be used and understood in the UK.

Amazon now have a steak in Yodel. I can't see that ending well for either company.

It's certainly rare to see such an alliance. (Rib)-eye don't see it lasting personally

Wikipedia provides a full explanation of the term, its original source, and its modern usage.

Needless to say the US Post abhors the phrase. It has been popularised by US TV shows around the world and is now used by people who have absolutely no clue as to how the saying arose. (Just like a great many idioms in use every day).

The biggest problem with couriers is that very few of them deliver on a Saturday. At least if Royal Mail stick a card through the door saying "Sorry you were out" I can then go online and arrange redelivery for the following Saturday. With couriers I either need to take a whole day off work, or try to find out when my housemates will be around and rearrange the delivery for that date and then hope that the courier manages to deliver when one of them is home to open the door.

Royal Mail all the way!

On a more serious note. My postie has been my postie for the last 10 years, yet the tt still delivers my mail next door or even two or three doors away.

It aint rocket science ffs!
I think some of them are just knobs.

I have lived in three houses in 13 months with very different opinions on each postie.

The first one was a knob. Would walk across our lawn to get to the neighbours house instead of using the path. Frequently delivered my letters to my neighbours and similarly delivered my neighbours to me.

Second one, barely seen him and seemed to get all the letters/parcels correct, never received my neighbours mail and I dont think my mail went elsewhere. All in, good postie.

Just moved into my third house (which we are doing up) in a rural village. Post man introduced himself as soon as the tradesmen pointed me out as the owner, very pleasant chap who asked if there was a chosen place id want my mail left during the refurbishment, even said he was happy to deliver it to another address (we have family living local). Family members tell us he has access to their sheds to drop parcels off etc and is very reliable/trustworthy. Very pleasant every time I see him and genuinely think he will make my life easier. I should imagine he does very well "for a drink" at Christmas time smile

Plenty of things still need to be sent snail mail. Plenty of people (quite rightly) don't trust e-mail as not being secure.

Our postie is good, she normally tries to leave parcels with a neighbour to save a trip to the depot.

I can't see how Parcel Force can survive though, I sold some bike forks last week, boxed them up and took them to the PO. They were too long for RM so they had to go Parcel Force, for a parcel weighing under a kg they wanted £11.99!

Sent them with Hermes for £3.48 in the end.

EU Member states have to provide a universal postal service. So he'll be around for a while.

One good thing about the Royal Mail - it's over 500 years old, and yet - it's never been hindered by progress. wink

Amazon Prime Air drones might become a reality though.

I thought they were working harder than ever with ebay purchases, even if they are small packets.

RM recently closed the delivery office in our small town. As a placating measure, you could collect your missed parcels or registered letters on the next day from the post office. They have now stopped that service, so you need to wait for the next day before going to Basingstoke (7 miles away).

Basingstoke has a one window office for collecting parcels - it takes over an hour on occasions.

So we never use RM for parcels any more (where we get the choice!)
