Is it realluy so highly surprising that a bunch of car enthusiasts, on a car enthusiast website, given a theoretical sizeable windfall, would choose to spend a fai rchunk of it on erm, cars? hehe

There's the same amount of imagination in this thread as there are real girls on PH.
Could you post your list im just curious what you would go for.
You're not curious. You'd like to attempt to ridicule me, you silly billy.

Unless you lived in a box under a tree, none of those amounts would change your life- you'd just end up with a better load of things that you'd be unhappy with after a year, when you realised they hadn't changed your life.

g) 10,000,000

The plans are ready in my head: build nice family house with (very) large subterranean garage, overlooked by 007-style office (= man-cave) from which I could ogle my little collection (1950's Merc 300SL, Austin Healey 3000, E-type, Beta Coupe, etc... + assorted supercars)

The last two amounts listed would allow me to retire. I would say never having to work again would change my life.

Timfy, 10 million and you'd still go to work?!
I would. I still want to enjoy my life and would easily get bored far too quickly without work.
Only a boring person with no imagination would get bored by not going to work.
Define boring. It would stop my brain rotting, keep me within the realms of society. It would also be an opportunity to do something a bit more worthy.
I'd still work if I had millions in the bank.

Of course the thing I'd do for "work" would be radically different.
I would still work, [geology] it's what I enjoy and am learning new stuff all the time...

I'd probably work only a % of the time instead of 100%, but £10 000 000 isn't that much to live on if you're going to go crazy and not work for the next (hopefully) 50+ years.
This is kind of what I had in mind. I'm still studying and haven't even started my career, be a shame to put all that education to waste hehe

In the same way it could be said that only very boring people would continue to work it could be said that they're the ones actually working with something they actually like and that develops them each day. Therefore it's not just about working to make money. I'd prefer a smaller salary and actually enjoy what I'm doing, since (I spend 37 hours or so a week doing it. And like you, it depends at which point in life you are at if you can live off £10M never working again. It would be possible, but as someone studying it wouldn't exactly be rock and roll craziness!
