Have just returned from the Pharmacy in the Hospital where I work after trying to purchase 3 items of medicine, night nurse, day nurse, and a cough mixture. I was interrogated by the woman on the desk to supply details of my symptoms, whether I had seen my GP, and if I had not, then she suggested I did. I reiterated my request for the items I required, then she went out the back with the items in her hand. She then reappeared with a message from the pharmacist that I could only have 2 out of the 3 items. I enquired why this was, and she stated that she did'nt want me coming back later into A and E.
I take great exception at being treated like an idiot. I'm a 60 year old Professional working within the trust, since when did it become necessary to have to explain my needs to counter staff.
There is now nothing to stop me from getting the other item somewhere else, should I choose to be so irresponsible.
Is it just me

Can you kill yourself with nightnurse? Surely your going to have to drink more than 3 bottles?

Nothing stopping you going to tesco for another two then a short drive to sainsburys for another two!

A while back, I was turned away from a counter for trying to buy 2 packets of Paracetamol contain 16 capsules. I returned with one pack of 32 capsules (I hadn'[t seen these on the shelf) and purchased it.

Store policy.

Pharmacists do my head in with this.

I was in Gibraltar and the OH wanted to stock up on Syndol, which for various reasons in hard to get hold of over here. Pharmacy on Main Street with lady who seemed UK - two boxes she would sell me. Went across the road to a smaller pharmacy obviously staffed by a true Gibraltarian - didn't bat an eyelid at me asking for 15 boxes.

There was once a strong glue you could buy to repair footwear with. I can't remember what it's called now, but anyway, I once asked a well known high street shoe repair and key cutting establishment if they had any as I needed to fix a sole that was becoming detached from one of my trainers. I was told that the glue was no longer sold on its own because, apparently, glue-sniffers might buy it. BUT, I was allowed to buy a shoe repair kit that contained a pair of cut-to-fit soles and, guess what, the exact same glue!

Last night I managed to buy 2 packs of Paracetemol caplets and a case of beer from my local Sainsburys with my 16 year old in tow (along with my normal weekly shop etc).

I was treated like an adult who wanted to have these items in stock for future requirements, not a suicidal drug addled mother duped into buying alcohol for her teenaged son.

Very refreshing.

My mother was once refused some over-the-counter hay-fever tablets when she admitted they were for her dog (at the vet's suggestion).

I went to the chemist for the holiday stock up on paracetamol, ibrupofen, cold treatment and the like. Couldn't possible let me have that in one go even after I explained it has to cover 6 people. They explained that I could come back on another visit to get more but not all at once. I enquired what constitutes another visit and apparently as long as I leave the premises and the door closes behind me then when I re enter thats another visit.

Cue me walking onto the pavement and closing the door behind me and retuning to the counter, three times.

Good job i wasn't going to top myself as this would have really shot my plans to bits.

But you can still buy massive fireworks in any quantity you like, enough alcohol to float a ship, fags galore, petrol in 20 gallon loads, LPG, oxygen and acetylene in cylinders, etc., etc.

I've been caught out a couple of times going through supermarket self checkouts with a single pack of ibuprofen or paracetamol. Quite why these machines insist on going into meltdown, flashing red lights and screaming 'authorisation required' for a single pack of pain killers I do not know.

For what it's worth, I'm a healthcare professional - I can quite easily open up a cupboard, swallow thousands of pills and pretty much die instantly, if I wanted. But I choose not too, so there's no need to look at me suspiciously when I purchase a poxy little pack of painkillers.

supplied against a valid 'direction to Supply' completed by an Independent Prescriber ( Doctor, Dentist , Master's level additionally trained and educated Nurse or Pharmacist) on the prescribed documentation. the accountability for that quantity is with the independent Prescriber

due to the narrow gap between therapeutic and toxic doses Paracetmaolwas recategorised to PoM a few years ago with a specific exemption allowing the sale of up to 32 * 500 mg tablets/ capsule as a General Sale medication and upto 100 * 500 mg tablets may be sold as a Pharmacy Medication

Same thing happened to me. If asked "Is this for yourself", I just default to "Yes".

Maybe the dreadful pauper on the counter wasn't aware of your awesome credentials?
