I have the good fortune to be working at a large company in the gem business at the moment.

One of this company's "Sightholders" is coming in to sell its diamonds to staff. I'm assured that the savings are very real and very significant (this is a very sophisticated group of customers wink)

By very great coincidence it's our wedding anniversary shortly, and Mrs BFB reacted rather well to the suggestion I buy her a stone and get it mounted. By even greater good fortune there are dozens of places locally where I could get it set, given the locale I work in.

My question is, how much, roughly, should I legislate for to mount a diamond in a simple claw setting on an 18ct band? I really haven't the foggiest, and other threads seem to focus on the stones.

It's been a while since I looked but I would budget 4-600 for a setting. I could be wrong and it's much cheaper, but I'd be surprised if it's more than that.

I'll await others to chime in.

So keep it all crossed Mrs BFB likes her shiny new diamond chaps!

...as well as getting an XC70 last weekend, too.

I should marry me smile
