Kicking off then, I am interested in all things from the 1920's early 30's era. Art deco, life styles, clothing, Gangsters, prohibition and the 'Bright young things' and of course the music. I use a 1920's car to tow my vintage caravan (1929) to shows, exhibitions, re-enactments, promotions and such like. Slowly getting together the correct attire for the era. This is now my tenth year and my interest keeps growing, the TV series Boardwalk Empire and Peaky Blinders has done much to draw attention back onto the era.
Thought about rock climbing but can't stand heights.
Interesting.

Couple of months back took our motorhome down to the Caravan club's site at Broadway in the Cotswolds, and there on display in a huge alarmed glass cabinet they had what is reputed to be the worlds oldest caravan.:-

Thanks for link, The Wanderer is the oldest caravan of that there is no doubt, remarkable high quality museum piece. The Eccles, my caravan make and model is the first proper car drawn touring caravan, started to be manufactured in 1919. Mine is one of the last original style dubbed 'cottage on wheels' built 1929. The following year Eccles developed the tourer with rudimentary aero-styling. Last show of the season I met the Wisbeach classic caravan club. Their show stand was set up as an avenue with vans covering all decades from 1950 -1980, each van detailed correctly to era. Sorry everybody else coffee

i know it's a piss take but if it was true i could appreciate the effort in doing something like that
It isn't as much of a piss take as it sounds (the slide show bit is. It's actually in PowerPoint).

The sad thing is, it is no effort at all but for some bizarre reason I get enjoyment out of it.

I get a warm feeling when I see nicely fixed tiles and pissed off with DIY bodges.

The floor tiles at Beijing airport piss me off so much that I try avoiding traveling through it. They were thrown down for the Olympics and they are shame to the Chinese nation.

I must add I'm not involved in tiles at all but the interest started as a child when a sexy blonde tile shop assistant gave me a pile of tile brochures.

Sadly, monolithic floors, laminate and splash panels seem to have gained popularity over tiles but they just don't do it for me. My wife is dead against tiles for our next shower wanting composite panels as there is less issue with mould growth. I must admit, she has a point.

I came home from school one day to find a Range Rover brochure, price list colour and upholstery swatches on the kitchen table. My letter to Solihull had been so convincing, they'd sent a salesman out from the dealer to hand deliver them. My old man felt obliged to take the Range Rover out for the offered test drive. I got a big lecture from him about wasting people's time.
laugh

I used to do something similar with porno mags. I'd phone up pretending to be a big advertiser looking to block book pages of adverts & they'd send me copies of their magazine. I'd get bundles of mags turning up at home then I'd sell them at school. Got rumbled after a couple of years when one of them did a follow up call but my Dad answered the phone.

My unusual but legal hobby is now rock tumbling. I find rocks and put them in a machine & it polishes them over a few weeks.

My father used to do this. He made his tumbler out of an odd parts and an old record player motor. Infact somewhere I probably have the polishing grit.

Hint: Buy those little plastic eyes glue them on the larger ones and sell them to fund your hobby.
You can also buy clasps to make them into pendants.

Have you done tigers eye yet? They are awesome!!

I make stuff from junk and give it to people.

I tell people, and they think I’m weird (to be fair, I am), then I show them, and end up making something for them. My wife’s horse owning mates think the silly little highland cows are great, to the point that the person that runs the shop at the equestrian centre wants me to make her some to put on the shelf.

I love that!

I collect Whisky.

A bit unusual I suppose as most people would drink it, which I do, but only certain bottles (for obvious reasons).

I'd buy that lamp and the first horseshoe wine-rack in an heartbeat. I've seen the crank-lamps before, but never so well executed. That one's just lovely proportions and finish. Bravo!

Me too!

I came on to post that I play with model trains but that's better.

What kind of people?
I can only really think of a farrier who could use bits of it to put on horses feet, but other than that I'm not really sure.

Might sound like a silly question, but why? I quite like the raw look. Maybe I'm missing something? smile
Not a silly question - me & my son collect stones off beaches and rivers when we're out and about / on holiday etc then tumble them (takes about 4 weeks from start to finish). We've got little jars all over the place with stones in from places we've been to. Bit daft really but it's just one of those silly things!

I like the "googly" eyes idea - never thought of that!

The tigers eye stones are lovely - I've got some of that (bought not found!).

Was it you who did the thread about it?

There was someone asking about buying lock picks on here and i did a lot of research into it afterwards, very interesting little hobby but like so much i never really found the time to go further than looking at it.

Random lock opening fact of the day. In order to open those 4 digit pin-code locks you see on office key-safes and changing room lockers try 2244, it tends to be the default code for 80-85% of them. Failing that carry a 9V battery with you, in-case they run out of power whilst locked most will have two metal connections somewhere on them and touching these with a 9V battery will always override and open the lock.

Light entertainment prog' several months back featured much the same format, unusual hobbies. They televised a chap who has been collecting glass milk bottles for years. Bottles were absolutely everywhere, the collector proudly displayed the various differing features on some of his more rare bottles.
His hobby was well out of hand and he was persuaded to release some of his collection to caring owners.

I'm tempted to start collecting labels that are being sticked to bananas/apples/oranges.
Wonder just how many are needed to completely cover the fridge? hehe

A horseshoe winerack would be perfect for my brother's girlfriend and wife's aunty, they both love alcohol and horses. Just need to find something similar in time for christmas.

Yes and the picture you have in your profile of it has been on my laptop as a desktop background since I read the thread where you raced a Prius and won.
A wonderful machine.
