I make stuff from junk and give it to people.

I tell people, and they think I’m weird (to be fair, I am), then I show them, and end up making something for them. My wife’s horse owning mates think the silly little highland cows are great, to the point that the person that runs the shop at the equestrian centre wants me to make her some to put on the shelf.

I can think of two dozen people that would pay handsomely for those wine racks if you ever did decide to monetise it.

Is that a strange combination of hobbies?

Might sound like a silly question, but why? I quite like the raw look. Maybe I'm missing something? smile
Not a silly question - me & my son collect stones off beaches and rivers when we're out and about / on holiday etc then tumble them (takes about 4 weeks from start to finish). We've got little jars all over the place with stones in from places we've been to. Bit daft really but it's just one of those silly things!
Ah, I see, not the semi-precious stones in the pic necessarily, then. Post up a pic of a jar?

I like to crawl and clamber around inside the earth. Then become pissed up and drunk on booze.

I used to do something similar with porno mags. I'd phone up pretending to be a big advertiser looking to block book pages of adverts & they'd send me copies of their magazine. I'd get bundles of mags turning up at home then I'd sell them at school. Got rumbled after a couple of years when one of them did a follow up call but my Dad answered the phone.

My unusual but legal hobby is now rock tumbling. I find rocks and put them in a machine & it polishes them over a few weeks.

I just showed this to my wife. Apparently somewhere in the loft we have one of those. I live near several beaches, so I'll have to give it a go if I find it.

How does it work? Do you put polish in it or something?

Light entertainment prog' several months back featured much the same format, unusual hobbies. They televised a chap who has been collecting glass milk bottles for years. Bottles were absolutely everywhere, the collector proudly displayed the various differing features on some of his more rare bottles.
His hobby was well out of hand and he was persuaded to release some of his collection to caring owners.
OTT & OCD, but I guess even milk bottles have their occasional moments. The Inspiral Carpets ones would have a certain appeal.

Kicking off then, I am interested in all things from the 1920's early 30's era. Art deco, life styles, clothing, Gangsters, prohibition and the 'Bright young things' and of course the music. I use a 1920's car to tow my vintage caravan (1929) to shows, exhibitions, re-enactments, promotions and such like. Slowly getting together the correct attire for the era. This is now my tenth year and my interest keeps growing,

Basically, yes. You get (or I have) 4 grades of polish from coarse to very fine and start off with the coarsest. Leave it tumbling for a week with a bit of water in, then clean and replace with the next grade and so on. It's pretty noisy so I wouldn't have it running in the bedroom.

Some of the rocks off beaches will disappear down into nothing, but lots wont. There's probably a way of testing how "hard" a rock is (chalk being soft, diamond being hard) but part of the fun is finding out.

I'll post some pics up later when I've got a moment.

Thanks for the great link! Right up my street and I would love to make a visit. Won't be next year but maybe 2016. Looks awesome!!
My vintage car came from N.Z. place called Nelson, the car still sports the VCC badge.
