As above, usually the driver, so don't drink at all. It isn't your issue, if you don't want to drink, you don't drink.

This holier than thou attitude is why it can be difficult to trust non drinkers. Perfect example, really.

Being trusted by a bunch of piss artists isn't really a goal to aim for smile

I don't think being a bit of an irritant means someone isn't trustworthy.

I hardly think being the wrong side of 6 pints makes anyone particularly trustworthy.

I don't drink, all my chums know that. All my colleagues know that. These days it's never an issue even with people I don't know. The people who regularly drink lunchtimes during the week are now the exception rather than the rule I would suggest.

You don't have to drink to have a good time.

That's very true. However, it makes the crap times go more quickly.

I have had any number of good times which did not involve drinking.

I have had any number of good times which did involve drinking.

I have had very few good times with people who judged me for doing either.

I'll drink to get 'jolly'. I always know when to stop but most of my mates dont and this is where the bickering then starts as i wont take part in their drinking games/shots/downing pints etc

What ive noticed that really winds them up (why it does so i'll never know) is whilst this bickering is going on i'll pretend to give in, go to the bar and order a shandy.

Its strange, and flattering at the same, to think my mate's enjoyment is dictated by my drinking habits.

This really. 3-4 measures of vodka is the sweet spot and I'll then pace myself the rest of the evening to maintain that level (enough to put up with those who can't/won't pace themselves, convince myself I can dance and generally be care free).

Most of the people I know who choose not to drink on nights out are usually genuinely just dull people. But that’s just my experience.

I think going out for a meal and not drinking is different then going out to pubs and clubs though.
You just happen to know dull people then.

I drink, maybe once or twice a month, and often maybe just a pint or two. I still drink on special occasions though - as in a proper night out drinking. That doesn't mean I don't have a good time when I'm not pissed - far from it.

In fact, I often prefer not to drink. Having probably been not far from being an alcoholic less than a decade ago, I now find it quite a relief that I don't have that urge to go out on the piss come the weekend.

You really don't know just how alcohol controls you when you are in a habit of drinking regularly.

Everything in moderation as they say!

Sadly this is all many people have to look forward to - getting a bit pissed on Fri/Sat night or a bottle of wine each evening. Take away the booze and what else is there for them, besides work? It's a wonderful means of control by the powers that be.

Life is st, but that's OK as I'm out for a big session Friday night.

I think the Sinatra quote sums this up nicely.

Most people work hard and then drink fri and sat.

If you don't drink you enjoy the non drink stuff more. Just going out to sit around and talk rubbish at 1am isn't appealing to me.

I nearly fell out of bed reading this.

You were more than jolly when I lifted you out of a tree at 4am.

I stopped drinking a couple of years ago when it stopped being fun. Lost a stone without doing anything else at all, stopped wasting the whole weekend being hungover, saved about a grand a year. I don't miss who I was when I was drunk, and I don't miss being drunk. Friends stopped mentioning it after a while. If a friend is still getting stupid about it, have a discussion with him when you aren't at the pub. If he still doesn't get it then he's not so much of a friend.

Aside from the implications of a reduction in the tax-take, offset by savings elsewhere, if booze was sent the same way as class As/Bs, there would be massive uproar and a potentially a major awakening amongst the GP.
