I'm not so sure - cash makes everything easier of course, but materialistic gain on such a scale is alien to a lot of people and I can see how confrontation, isolation and such forth can easily arise, if you weren't satisfied with life beforehand I don't think money is the best shot in the arm to make all your woes go away, deep down. I suppose it depends on how you use it, idle time is great but you could only do that for so long I think, investing in something interesting and worth while rather than living a playboy/girl lifestyle would surely be the way to go.Still, I'd take my chances - we're moving house (well, from a flat to a house) shortly and I am currently flat broke due to the saving we've had to do!
there's sooo much you could do
Actually I don't think I would do anything too drastic.. Buy a bigger house in the same town (Oundle, which I really like.. kids are already settled at a good school etc)..
Singer as a daily driver
New Range Rover to replace the Discovery
Don't think I would bother buying overseas property.. it would be easier to rent / stay at the nicest villas/hotels etc.
Would definitely make a point of enjoying "The Season" and major world sporting events in general!

With that much money you could, you know, move South!

This is PH: A car spending spree is a given.
But with that level of financial independence - easily seeing both my sons through university - I'd most want to learn things. Race, fly, dive, cook. Becoming good at things would be every bit as satisfying as owning things.
I would most like to spend time with my older son, both of us learning to fly.
I'd also want something with billionaire doors and use it to drop my younger son off at his Corbynista Momentum events.

Invest loads of it away so I didn't have access to it easily but got a good income from it
Buy a nice house, with land and outbuildings etc - £2 million worth/ maybe £3 as a fixer-upper
Pay debts off, £8k
Buy SWMBO whatever car she wants, even if I hate it
Send whatever current £200 stter I'm driving at the time into the most renowned specialist for the marque and say 'do everything'
Buy a v8 Jag and not have to worry about fuel costs
A Citroen XM V6 Exclusive as I always really wanted one when I had my 2.0 VSX one
Regarding cars, I've always said that I would join a car club. I know sod all about modern cars, let alone modern fast/decent cars, so rather than go out and buy the first thing I saw, I'd spend a pretty penny on a good supercar club membership and try out loads, then maybe buy one that I liked.

Last two comments are exactly the kind of issues a big winner would face, so it really isn't as simple as saying "pfffft, I don't understand how anyone can't cope with a big win".
Answer.Don't tell anyone. Don't change your lifestyle. Carry on scrimping and saving. Keep wearing the same old, worn, threadbare, patched clothes. Keep driving the same knackered 12 year old Fiesta.
Result. No one will know. no one will accuse you of being tight fisted or buying friendships.

I would quit work, naturally, not before taking the team I've worked with for 9 years on a mahoosive pissup with hotels at the end of it etc.
What to do with my time? Well, a nice massive workshop kitted out with whatever tools I desired/needed will need using, so maybe a nice 'first project' landrover/MG to get started, then who knows! Always wanted to learn to weld, so could buy a ford KA and fill my boots with learning, and throw it all away if I don't get on with it.
My vacuum cleaner collection would improve beyond reason, and that'll need a studio to go in, with a workshop attached. Ebay spending will go up, the Hoover Juniors I've seen go for £3/400 on ebay will be mine, rather than me looking at them going WTF how is that worth that much! NOS parts, literature etc, will all need storing. Might even open up a repair shop/museum in town as a sideline, find some people to work in it, will give me some purpose when I'm not doing stuff with the kids or SWMBO. It wouldn't have to make money tbh, as long as I kept it sensible to be maintained on the interest someone mentioned further up.
I was talking to someone at work about this, and he said that he would keep the money in the UK and get the tax paid, as he likes the UK, and wouldn't want the hassle of keeping his money hidden. Not sure how much I agree with that tbh, it's a fair chunk of cash to loose, I'm sure with £143 million avenues open up for tax avoidance that mere mortals like me don't even know exist

My lottery dream carries a little problem...
I'd really want a Ferrari 250LM. Ever since I was very small indeed, I've lusted after the LM. With £143M in the bank, I'd be in a position to not just buy one but actually use it. I think cars like the LM should be driven.
However, the other part of my brain knows how few of them remain in the world and how bad I'd feel were something to happen to it, which it probably would, probably somewhere around Donington.
Still, a nice dilemma to have.

Spending £143m - easy peasy.
Spending £143m on things that I alone genuinely want - probably quite difficult.
I could very easily get rid of it. I'd just make sure that none of my friends and family ever had to worry about money again and that they could provide very well for their children future. They wouldn't all be able to jack in work necessarily - but they wouldn't have to worry about paying their mortgage, putting their kids through University, paying for holidays, paying for care for elderly parents etc.
Plus a lot to charity I think.

I find that even now I buy stuff i dont really need and never make the best use of, gadgets mainly but would be the same with cars.
back when I was a kid if I got something, say my Commodore 64, I knew it inside out, a new game was a big purchase and got played to death but now, I bought a Retro Gaming handheld, used it for a n hour, now stuck in a draw.
Would be the same with cars I guess, owning, but not using them, feeling like you arent looking after or getting them used, you decide to and you come to it, battery is flat.
I suppose with 143 million you could easily pay someone to fettle them but with a fleet of loads of cars you would never really know or bond with them like you did when you were 18 with some old banger.
So, not sure I would have loads of cars, I might go through a few, buy one, use it, move it on then keep the ones you fall for, mine wouldn't all be super expensive, would have the time to perhaps modify stuff and invest my newly found spare time into and pay someone to assist and teach me, perhaps take something and do the Singer approach on something that isnt a Porsche, the worlds best Hillman Avenger or some other folly
A fleet of ten plus supercars doesn't really grab me that much, would drive a few and then buy the one I liked best, get some driver training and put some miles on it, get it set up perfectly, perhaps modified a bit, dont know, just not interested in doing a real life computer game type collection, i.e. end up like the Boxer with multiple Veyrons, I mean, what is the point ?
Would probably build a house to my spec, nice location, decent size but not huge for the sake of it.
I would experience things, places, go in a MIG, do my PPL and spend loads more time on exercise, probably pay for a chef to prepare decent, healthy meals. Would fly First/Business and may try the odd charter of a Private Jet.

Thing is, if you do that then you become known to everyone as the flash who is buying people's friendship, and likewise; if you don't buy all the drinks when you're down the pub and let someone else get them, you become the tightfisted .
Well I would give my friends money to ensure they do not have to worry about it anymore. I'd also be able to have the cars they want delivered to them and enable them to buy the houses they want to help their lives and of course they can also help their families with it. If they don't want to be friends anymore, so be it. But I think my friends are rather better than that. And I don't go to the pub.......
