How do you spend £143 Million?

I wouldn't. The story would be "One of my investments came good."Yes I would uprate my lifestyle (and move house!) but I don't think people would really know how much I'd got. £143m is enough to see almost anyone out in absolute luxury if they're not idiots...and you'd be able to leave a substantial bequest to the charity of choice...

Would you not tell family?
not a chance in hell - sure way to ruin relationships and start fightsX5TUU said:
Honestly and all jokes aside I would love to know how long i could keep it from the Mrs. I work away from home so it would be easier than trying to seem like maintaining a 9-5 lifestyle lol ... she's not be happy when she found out the secret mind (initially!)
I'd tell the missus but no one else. Until the kids leave home (maybe 10yrs) I'd stay in the same house and just lead a more comfortable life; new car for the wife, great holidays, maybe new kitchen / bathrooms over time. Basically the most I could do within the realms of normality. The minute the kids leave home, the wife and I would pack in our jobs and travel the world, don't care who knows then
I've often dreamed of coming into money through an easier method. i.e not working hard for it.
The thought of winning £143M would terrify me, not sure if it has been discussed on any of the pages in this thread but there was a documentary which interviewed big winners (£10M+) All of them said how it ruined their lives.
One paid off his friends mortgages, but they complained that it was differing amounts to each other, so they should have the cash difference.
I genuinely think, if I won such money I would get rid of £142M of it, keep the million, but keep it hush hush. I don't want for a lot in life, but mortgage free would be lovely.
You can easily buy a nice car and say it was an inheritance, or a good bonus from work, but I could not be ringed with the attention form "friends" if they got wind I was suddenly a multi millionaire.
I think my dream amount of money would be £850k for that I would:
Pay off all debt
Buy wife a new Tiguan
Buy me a new SQ5
Invest in a couple of flats in Leeds - can keep this hush from friends
Allow wife to not work if she wants too
Have nicer holidays, clothes, sofas, more meals out etc.
I would want enough that enabled a nicer, more comfortable life, but not enough that I no longer need to work. I feel I'd need to work to have an existence.
However, I am not a dick, I play the lotto, if I won £143M I can't guarantee I would follow my own advice above.

When I said family I didn't mean the Mrs - imagine the eye of Sauron when I have just put on the ring
No I totally agree and it would be similar here ... plus I can barely hold water never mind such a big secret and I'd struggle to not rock home in a Testarossa or FF (my garage away from home is too small to fit either and I wouldn't trust them parked on the road around the corner lol)Could be an intriguing experiment though lol
Judging by the way the sniff of a £100k Estate/Inheritance 'pot' can make some people act, I'm, not sure I'd ever admit to winning that sort of money. So much greed, bitterness and resentment whilst it's being it's being carved up and even more distasteful to me anyway how quickly afterwards the left-overs of someone's entire life's graft is frittered away.
I'd tell a straight faced lie about the amount - £10m tops, let their greed decide what they 'deserve' and let them have it - I know for a fact some of my extended family members would think half would be about right, and they'd come back begging for more a few years later. Greed as they say is blind, and it doesn't know when to stop.
I don't know if it's the internet that makes this sort of stuff more visible, or the worlds just become more materialistic, but there's an awful lot of chintzy crap I wouldn't buy. So no gold plated mobile phones, diamond encrusted yachts or Lear Jets for me.
Truth is I'm pretty happy with my lot in life, a big huge pile of money like that wouldn't mean too many new 'things' for me - yeah we'd move, but where we live (and we're very happy here) £1m buys you a massive place in pretty much any area you fancy, £2m and you're looking at something that looks more like a resort hotel than a home - I think that would be too much for me, I'd lose the kids all the time. I'd buy a few toys, new bikes, new cars, I might, just might allow myself a P1, I assume you can still buy one if you're prepared to spend enough - but it wouldn't kill me not too. I could give away £140m of it and be equally happy.

It probably is a good idea.
On the other hand, is want to pay off my best friends mortgage and by the other a house so they don't have to raise their little boy in a rented home.
The obstruction I would expect is them trying to not let me. They are both proud and fairly gentle people who always hate to impose in a little way.
Though as some say - you never know I suppose.
But I like to think I do
