It's an odd thing to say on PH, but I think one of the first things I would do is hire a driver.

I have a list in my head than runs anywhere between 5 and 8 places in the world where I would buy somewhere to live. All of which would have to be fully staffed.

A private jet (again, with someone else to do the flying) would be nice, but to get something that will get you across the Atlantic, let alone the Pacific, is not cheap, even by the £143 millionaire standards. I suspect for long haul I'd just have to slum it in First class on scheduled airlines. Oh, the embarrassment!

Maybe a bit too sensible but here goes!

Put myself through a phd I find really interesting.

Buy a house and be comfortable being mortgage free.

Give family a good chunk.

Finish the project cars I have (205 rallye rally car, 2 mk2 golfs, Austin A35 rally car, BMW e28, and Mercedes 190e) to highly likely to be stupid levels of detail. Help my dad do the same with his.

Travel, a lot of travel.

Invest a fair amount.

Keep a good bit in the bank and then spend some on a collection of nice classic cars (a Muira is one on 'the list') as well as a purpose built shed/workshop for them. No modern exotica for me, besides maybe an M3 for a daily.

It's true, but it's not so much the money as the fame. I've seen people become rich, and people become rich and famous - and it's the fame that drives people utterly mad. Never known anybody deal with it - it's soul destroying.

To those worried about security, don’t worry, this country is full of very rich people, the vast majority do not have security. It’s just about being a little low key.

-Personally £40m will go to family
-I have already found my ideal house so that will be £7m; not too big and not too small, it has just the right amount of land and a perfect barn that will house 20+ cars plus a work shop big enough to have 3 projects on the go with full facilities
-I will learn all the stuff I always wanted to do, i.e. fly, sail, racing drivers’ school and proper panel beating etc
-I would like to become good enough driver to be able to enter and compete in my privately entered LM spec car at Le Mans
-I will up grade my holiday home in Whistler Canada to something larger like this: http://www.thornhillrealestategroup.com/v964616-22... I will the spend my winters there
-A call would be made to Singer that I was on the next plane to California to spec my new car
-I will be on speed dial with RM Auctions as I have a list of classics that needs to be sorted
-I can now spend real time with the family
-I will now lead a quite like

We came from money it got thinned down to sod all one family member to another, we don't have any now so I would find going back to it quite easy.

Probably just do the same things we do now just better.

Bigger house.
Bigger garage.
Bigger stables.
Bigger boat.

More cars.
More horses.
More skiing.
More holidays.
(More work)

Better watch.
Better Whisky.
Better Wine.
Better mobile phone (one that works would be nice)

I would invest in art, cars, business property.

I quite fancy a nice pair of beretta shotguns, I always have a quick look in at jermyn street. I don't really like guns but the quality of work in them and the engineering has always attracted me. I wouldn't use them just look at them.

My main worry would be where to put the vast wine cellar on the yacht as we sail around the world, fishing and diving every day.

If £143m was making you £7.5m in interest alone, why would you want to invest to make more?

£7.5m to live on whilst your £143m remains untouched is enough, surely? £20k a day? confused

Who would leave their wife?

If you have that sort of wedge you could afford to stay and visit some of the most beautiful places in the world and amongst that you would become attractive to beautiful ladies. Thats my worry, I'd be too tempted by long legs, pretty faces and boobies.

Nice. I think that might have been taken by Team USA in 2010 and used for a Lyndsey Vonn photoshoot.

Have you ever had a look at the ones on the other side of the Creekside gondola, on Kadenwood? Very large, with their own private gondola up from Creekside. There are also some huge plots and houses across the valley from the Creek, on Stonebridge Drive. Pretty nice too.

My worry would be that although this is a tempting option for a couple of years, you are at serious risk of running out of money, true friends and people who actually love you, rather than your money.

Id sort close family members out nicely without 5mil each, probably 12 in total. Then my close friends with probably 2mil each, im in a position where i have 13 close mates and another 5 fringe members, though they'd probably only get a car if they were lucky haha.
Cars, id like a G63 AMG, Nismo R35GTR, The Mrs would like a range rover.
Houses, id more to a big house in the north east about 20miles from where i am now. Id buy a large Villa in Ibiza for the boys to visit whenever they like. A place on Miami beach aswell as laguna beach in Cali. A large Chalet in Val D'isere and Whistler Canada.
learn to fly a helicopter then proceed to buy one. (Whats the flying regs on these? can you land anywhere? i just have a vision of being able to land in someones back garden on a 'flying' visit biggrin)

I know what the benefits are of going public, but i dont think i could. IF i did go public i would have to move away and only come back to visit. i would hate living in the same area and being recognised/begged for money etc.

You would trust a bank with that?

If you put it in one bank and that bank went bankrupt you would get £85,000 back. More accounts in one bank and the maximum you would get is still £85,000, even if the total of all your different accounts with the same bank added up to more than this. So you would need to spread it putting £85,000 in each bank. But since there are only 40ish banks in the UK you still need to put the other £140 million somewhere, so you are buggered really if it all goes tits up.

But you could quite easily put £30 million into Jackson Pollock's plasters radio No5.1 or something, and in 10-20-50 years get that or more back for it. Also you could keep it in an are gallery and they can worry about keeping it safe for you.

Funny you should say that and yes I have. I have always fancied building in Whistler as their almost over use of wood can make some of their houses a little samey. I have seen a couple of new builds that have a more European feel which I think works well in the location. Anyway dream on thumbup

I think I'd certainly have to have a review with my missus.

In my head I'd like to say house, cars, family, self improvement and start a business to keep me happy (something with cars).

Firstly I'd go away for an extended holiday for a month or so with the extended family, somewhere I can't spend too much money silly money with the aim of getting my head straight with the whole shock.

I'd be buying a house - Something like this: http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope... - You'll know why if you take a look.

Then cars cars cars. Classic supercars to everyday specials. I'd happily spend a lot on cars. MMmmmm, so many cars.

I'd then start a business restoring or tastefully modernising classic cars or building racecars etc. Not with the aim to make money, but to keep myself active and sane; breaking even would be the goal in all honesty. Build something I'd enjoy then sell it on. Singer Porche style.

Obviously immediate family and friends would be well sorted.

In reality I'd drink, eat and lavish myself into a stupor and kill myself in a car too powerful. Job Done.

It's perfectly doable. Property prices in certain places can be eye watering.

Then there's classic sports cars, classic motorcycles, cigarette powerboats...it's a slippery slope.

Fortunately, my wife has those anyway so I'd probably let her stay. Whether she'd stick with me is another matter!

If I won £143 million, for a year I'd make Dan Bilzerian look like a man of the cloth...

I'd probably then die in a sex and drugs induced heart attack.

I like learning stuff, I also like making money, but I don't have any. They say you need money to make money, so I would use some of my new found wealth to make a bit more by investing it - probably into stocks n shares and property.
