How to move a piano?
Discussion
Interesting!
On an impulse, I bought an electronic organ, from an outfit called 'The Loft' in York - the place was essentially an junk shop that sold on behalf. This instrument used to belong to the Salvation Army.
I proudly lugged my new prize home in the back of my Volvo 740GLT Estate. The oran weighed nearly as much as a piano but it had this specification:-
Three manuals, the top one being a very early, 2-octave monophonic synth!
Lots and lots of stops, from 2ft down to 32ft.
Bass pedal rack.
Swell pedal with vibrato rocker.
Fully functioning hammerhead Leslie unit.
A number of effects stops.
A very special badge - 'Wurlitzer by Bell & Howell'.
It certainly was a window rattler and I had great fun with it. Then I made a discovery. A little, 64-key Yamaha synth could be plugged in through the Wurlitzer's amp and speakers, and it could out-voice and outperfrom it sound wise.
A chap who wanted to use the Wurlitzer for pub concerts bought it. It was soon replaced with a smaller two-manual organ, because he couldn't handle moving the might Wurtilizer.
At the last count (about 1985) the Wurlitzer was fully refurbished and became an exhibit in the organ museum near York. I still have two Korg synths - it's all Rick Wakeman's fault!

Once helped my mate move an upright piano in a Volvo 740 estate. We had to take the wheels off it to get it in, but proved that it is doable
Must have been a small upright. A neighbour gave us his old metal framed upright a few years ago.
It was only 3 doors away but we ended up paying £50 for a company to move it.
It took 2 big guys almost 2 hours to move it!
Think they regretted taking on the job :-)
Then we paid to get it tuned after leaving it to settle for a few weeks.
After all that my daughter, who we got it for, decided she wanted to play the guitar instead!
