A tenant has moved out and left some of this behind. There's 5 or 6 lengths, each around 2-3m. It's fairly heavy stuff and is probably about 40-60mm in diameter.

Wouldn't have a clue about the actual weight of it at the minute.. Anyone familiar with copper have any ideas if it's worth stripping etc rather than just throwing in the tip?

Was your tenant an electrician or did they nick it from some electricity substation?

Are the trains running OK in your area?

Oh, and electricity - I presume there is still a supply?

Not that I am suggesting they were up to anything not strictly legal...

Installed Wind Turbines I believe.

There's a chance he could come back for it yet - but it's unlikely.

It's worth about £300,000 in legal bills. Is it yours to sell? Clicky

About £3.60 per KG stripped.

It's worth a surprising amount. My Dad's an electrician, and when I was younger, he used to bring his offcuts home, and I'd collect them to take down the local scrapyard for some extra pocket money. Was always worth doing!

I took a couple of old hot water tanks down last year, and checked on the prices while there. I'm sure the stripped stuff was about £3/kg, and about £1/kg if plastic was left on. Of course, I could have remembered completely wrong biggrin

Any reputable scrappy will now want all sorts of paperwork from you to cover themselves and most won't even touch stuff that looks dodgy.

For the beer tokens it's worth, I wouldn't want the hassle if it turned out not to be your mate's to sell because you would be rather deep in the ste I fear... The utilities / transport companies take this sort of thing rather seriously.

Send him an email to pick it up within 7 days / take it to the tip and let them decide what to do with it.

Strip it down, take the lead off and clean it, pull all the papers off the cores and clean them up. Worth a bit more. Pilc cable can be worth a bit.
