Nice hotel in London and a great show but wrapped up in being chaffeur driven from his arrival in town to being dropped off to go home.

We both know you're getting older!
I thought this may help.

Experiences better than 'stuff' at this age. We bought my FiL tickets to an England cricket 1 day game and I went with him and let him have a good few drinkies etc and then drove him home.

He still mentions that day out, and it's about 3 years ago I think.

Another vote for experiences over stuff. However.... photos always go down well, can you make an album of family photos or get a few framed and put them up for him? It's a fairly easy much appreciated thing that many people just never get round to doing.

Or even better - a Pat Butcher clock?

I have just been in exactly the same boat.

Dad's 60th and we had the meal yesterday.

I got him a 1st edition of a book that was one he introduced me to as a child - he was very made up, insofar as he ever is!

That's a coincidence, it's my dad's 60th at the end of this week and I have no idea what to get him either. Although knowing my dad, whatever I do for him he wouldn't appreciate it in the slightest so I'm not sure I'll bother.
Update: I bought him a new wallet from his football club, inscribed with the club crest and his initials, and a bottle of gin. He hasn't even opened either of them. frown

For my FIL's 60th we purchased him a pleasure flight in a light aircraft, when he opened the card, the look on his face was one of horror, I am sure he thought we were trying to kill him off for our inheritance hehe
Anyway the day finally came round for his flight and he was still not a happy bunny, but when he was up there he loved it, we flew down over the north Yorkshire Moors to Whitby and then back along the coast and over his house, he even got to fly it,

What a change when we had landed he was full of it, never stopped talking about it.
More details please? I think my old many would love something like this.
The flight was from Durham Tees Valley airport,

But I would think most flying clubs do the same type of thing, it appears cheaper than some of the red letter day type of experience.

If your dad is genuinely not bothered then don't get him anything.
