Houses!
You try and explain how, a small patch of land, with some clay blocks and woodwork, constructed in a few months by a few guys, costs on average £250,000
Quarter of a million pounds!
People used to make mud huts from the ground and twigs around them for free on land they just claimed.
where/when did it all get silly?
Another linked point.
A brand new 3 bed house up noorth is 130K.
The exact same house near london is 600k
Yes i understand the land cost more, and the labour costs are slightly higher, but the raw materials cost exactly the same and that tiny patch of land didnt cost 470K MORE than the other.
Where does the extra money go?
You could write a book to explain this and still many would disagree. You try and explain how, a small patch of land, with some clay blocks and woodwork, constructed in a few months by a few guys, costs on average £250,000

The reality is i think people (for whatever reason) are prepared and can afford to pay a lot more for a house in London and the South East than people elsewhere.
If people were prepared, and could afford to pay 600k for a terraced house in Hull thats what theyd cost.

A coffee in Costa or similar
£2.25 for a double espresso from Starbucks at Abington services... Daphuq?two coffess at costa recently at washington services £6.45. I looked at teh teenager serving me with an expression that should have said something like "are you stting me???" and she replied "its because its a services"
the bloke in front of me paid £5 for two cups of tea...that's hot water, a paper cup and a teabag....
as a yorkshireman I'm so tight I only breathe in but that is getting ridiculous!
Jeans and trainers.
They should both be about £50.
Psychologically that's what I expect to pay for a decent pair when I go shopping. This is no longer the case. Both have headed well north of that, even an everyday brand like "levi's".... although I've recently started buying Levi's again because they are reasonable in comparison to some other brands.
And football boots. I get a brochure from a the company I get my boots from, 25% of the pairs in there are now over £200!!!
Only about 5% are below £100!

Not looking to be argumentative but I think trainers are cheaper than ever. 20 years ago you could pay £100 a pair and I know you still can but there's an amazing choice at less than £50 and well fit for purpose unless you're a budding Mo Farah. They should both be about £50.

As for jeans, I buy a few pairs a year, I accept they're not Japanese denim or a hot, hipster brand but they look good, fit well and I've never paid over £50 a pair.

I'm fed up paying silly money for shoes now, for daily wear these have been fine:http://www.decathlon.co.uk/C-33092-mens-walking-sh...

Anything with an apple symbol on it. I know its good but really, is it worth the extra premium? (Having said that i do own apple products so maybe they are).
Friends who have apple devices and who have invested in apps/music etc are now committed to buying new apple devices - the cost to replace the paid for apps/music is not worth leaving...Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
