Nothing wrong with them in their place I just don't think their place is remembrance celebrations..
Any yourself???
Separate occasion for white poppies??
My understanding is that white ones are also a way of commemorating the war dead (but perhaps with an emphasis on the peace aspect). There are different ways of "remembering" IMO.Any yourself???
Separate occasion for white poppies??
An example of poppy fascism.

Both women wear a Poppy, both women contribute to the British Legion. One chooses not to wear one till Remembrance Sunday itself the other wears one in public but not on TV as a point of principal as she is banned from wearing the symbol of all other charities. Both views as fairly inoffensive yet both have attracted a hail of abuse on social media.

I wear a white poppy. Why would you wear it at another time of year - it's for Remembrance. I see it as complementary to the Legion's campaign, not opposing it. Any yourself???

I attended the town memorial service today, on my own as my little boy did not really understand what it was all about so I left him at home with his mum.
Lots of ex-servicemen were wearing their medals on their suits and I was just in my jeans and fleece, I turned up, paid my respects and went home. I don't know why I don't dress up and wear my medals like others do. Maybe I just don't like drawing attention to myself? I really can't explain it.
I know there are lots of other ex-servicemen on here, do you wear your medals?

First time I have ever worn them, only had them 20 years.Lots of ex-servicemen were wearing their medals on their suits and I was just in my jeans and fleece, I turned up, paid my respects and went home. I'll make more of an effort next year.

Wild guess (not ex-serviceman)... maybe you recognise that the day is not about you?Lots of ex-servicemen were wearing their medals on their suits and I was just in my jeans and fleece, I turned up, paid my respects and went home. The obsession with this over recent years is incredible, and not in a good way in my opinion.
Exactly.I wore one for work last week and was one of the only people to do so.
I remember my grandad talking about remembering those that died so we didn't have any more wars. Looks like he was a bit too optimistic.
I love rememberence Sunday. It's the only Sunday in any given year whereby I can supermarket sweep it in Tesco for the two minutes of silence when everyone else but me keeps still. Wish they did it every Sunday, would be in and out of Tesco in half the time.
For the record my dads dads dogs cousin woofey was also in the WWII
I would prefer if the donations accumulated in the last few weeks actually went towards the future as opposed to being stuck in the past.
