Can't stand trick or treating myself, one of the more ghastly Americanisms that has made its way over here. Demanding money/sweets with the threat of damage/inconvenience to property is extortion and should be met with a suitably appropriate response (something along the lines of 'fcensoredk off and if you touch my stuff I'll break you' springs to mind).

Yes I am a grumpy git but this is not related to the above opinion.

I have two kids aged 5 and 7. Their mum will take them out whilst I stay home to answer the door to trick or treaters and hand out sweets.

When trick or treating my kids will only go to people we know who live on our street, friends in the village and any house that is in the spirit of it with pumpkins or haloween decorations displayed.

They don't go to houses that we know are owned by miserable gits (like our immediate neighbour) or people who obviously want to be left alone.

All these replies about giving nasty sweets to little kids, don't do it, just don't answer the door if you don't want to be involved.

All Hallows' Eve is the occasion from which the name Hallowe'en is derived.
Double nobber.
"haloween" is just poor spelling.

Note on the door asking them to leave us alone seems to work. Nice and polite.

Except for the teenage tossers.
