These jackets/goggles were used in the mille miglia race back in the day so not so daft when you do your home work.
Indeed they did, as the following story documents very well! :-

I just enjoy my several CP Company jackets for the high quality and very stylish image they portray.

Of all the premium brand jackets I own, my CP Company items are the ones I wear the most often!

Being daft and looking daft are two different things though; you could say the same for plus fours... smile

they can also have a very strong stench of someone pretending they have a hooligan past

I wasn't aware that reputation belonged to the C P Company products though, I thought it was Stone Island products that seems to be worn by the dubious reputation types.

I know they are part of the same group of companies, but I had not heard people associated CP Company products in the same way!

I may stand corrected though, I am sure many people will now point me to numerous occasions where wearers of said items are documented as undesirables!

Still back on topic, I love these jackets, but I have also recently purchased a Jack Wolfskin 3 in one coat as it was in the sale at half price for £120, and I needed something very waterproof to walk the dog in that I didn't mind getting very muddy!

It too is almost too warm with its fleece lining, but a good all round coat none the less!

I'm sorry but that's just rubbish. James May wears Moncler which is also associated with hooliganism, does that make him a pretender?

I have a Canada Goose Citadel which is epic for when it's cold (say 5C and below) and windy. Not crazily warm like the Expedition but similarly styled (slimmer cut). The outer fabric is very tough and it's well designed - fits well with lots of pockets. The fur trim comes off if required.

http://www.canada-goose.com/citadel-parka-4567M.ht...

However, CG are quite pricey and I don't think I'd want mine to live in a muddy boot. They are also quite bulky and take up space. Finally though, and I think this kills it for the OP - they're not waterproof (generally designed to be worn when it's too cold to rain) and therefore probably won't work.

The best all-rounder I have is a Barbour Berwick Endurance. Very tough, practical, waterproof and fairly warm (even better with a fleece/jumper/down jacket underneath. It's a cordura/nylon shell rather than heavy/smelly waxed cotton but a similar design to their classic jackets. I find I wear this more than anything in UK Autumn/Winter. Not sure if it's still available but there will be something similar in their "waterproof"range.

I've had one of these for a good few years, only issues with mine are the alcantara around the cuffs, when it gets even slightly wet it's not pleasant against your wrists. The only other minor gripe is the neck is quite open meaning you need a scarf to keep the warmth in if it's properly cold.
Mine gets used regularly for dog walks, handwarmer pockets are a nice plus point smile

I saw a woman wearing a Canadian Goose parka inside a shopping centre last night. I don't know she copes.
If you're only in there a short time it's not too much of a problem though, since it will also insulate you from the heat outside the jacket.

Surprised no one has mentioned Keela: http://www.keela.co.uk/

Keela & Mountain Equipment supply a lot of the UK MRT, although them pesky foreigners are starting to invade.

IIRC they have an outlet store in New Scotlandshire where you can pick up reduced stuff.

Inspired by this thread and because it's cold and windy I dug my CG out to pick my son up from school. There was I all snug and smug feeling when one of the other Dads that I chat to wandered up and said "what the fk is that? Is Mr Blobby making a comeback?".

I felt like my lawn had been well and truly sausaged. weeping

Says more about him than the jacket, imo

He's normally OK actually. I think he was just a bit taken aback that not every middle-aged man's wife/Mum buys their clothes for them biggrin

Plus, it was a bit overkill and to be honest at 4 degrees with a blustery cold wind I was slowly turning into a pool of sweat inside...

I think that if you are of a more rotund persuasion you should avoid the Bibendum style puffy jackets because quite frankly you will look like Mr Bibendum.

I'm more of a finely honed sculpture of a man but these jackets are big - it's kind of what makes them work (trapped air).

I don't think what the OP is looking for really exists though, and layers probably are a better option. One base for wicking, 1/2 mid layers for heat retention and one shell for wind/rain blocking. Icebreaker/Smartwool are great for the first two layers, I live in the stuff in winter.

Read through the thread and noticed Canada Goose mentioned several times and also that most people think they are far too warm for the british climate.

As far as the one linked to at the start of the thread, well I've worn one and would agree that it is very warm and a bit OTT for anything other than seriously cold temperatures.

However I also have a chatea parka which is a bit shorter and a lot less bulky than the expedition parka and Imo much better suited to the uk winters.
Admittedly I'm still very warm when wearing it but not by any means uncomfortable, it's light weight and easy to wear and although expensive, quality wise it's far superior to anything else I've had or worn and is by far and away my favourite coat.
They also do other shorter jackets and also gillets which I'm sure would be well suited to our weather.

I could of course just be very nesh paperbag

So, as the national press seem to believe we're going to get 20,000 miles of snow soon, I thought I might consider wearing a jacket. Going on the start of this thread, were any of you mental enough to buy a CG Expedition, use it, consider it to be too stupid for this country and then throw it to the back of your wardrobe?

Went shopping at the weekend wearing my chateau Parker and soon regretted my choice,
it was nowhere near cold enough to warrant wearing it and being a bit too bulky to carry, I had to resort to keeping it unzipped but I was still uncomfortably warm.

I also have a CG Moraine jacket Which I believe is designed more for the summer months but due to it being waterproof and windproof I find it keeps me warm enough even on cold days
I'm hoping for atleast a few really cold days so I can justify wearing my parka, which considering what it cost has had very little use only leaving the wardrobe a few times since I got it.

Someone I used to stand near at the football had one of these, I remember it being -2 or -3 and he was sweating after he walked back to his seat after half time laugh Warm as toast doesn't even come close!
