Why when they get to a certain age, say 55+ why do they usually sport short hair?

Because it thins after menopause. Either that, or wear a wig.

Joan Collins (no doubt among many others) wears a wig. She's as bald as a coot underneath.

Ah, the 'Pat Butcher' look. No, I don't get it either. Maybe they want us to start ogling 20-year-olds.

Makes sense to me, but 55+ years of having to worry about, style, brush, wash, dry etc your hair - so much easier to say "fk it" and cut it all off? Plus, it's not like at their age they are out on the pull is it?

They're past it in terms of being attractive, so why bother with the maintenance overhead of having long hair?

Hair tends to get thinner with age. Thinner hair will go flatter if it's long due to the weight.*

  • I have no way of proving if I'm even remotely correct.

My wife is a hairdresser, whilst hormones and thinning hair certainly cause problems, most women just get fed up with looking after long hair.
