Probably right, but effectively turning off your website during one of the busiest online shopping periods while causing social media to promote it sounds like a funny way to sell stuff. More likely they wanted a small queue to get social media working for them but its backfired rather when they got flooded with lookey loos who created a real queue.

My entire office (NZ) have been sat on that queue all day, we jump back to the end of it as soon as we get close..

There probably is.

Do you think that they are turning people away (for more than an hour) just to create a false frenzy?

Bearing in mind, what they sell is available anywhere?

They're simply load balancing the web servers...it's better to keep people in a queue (or tell people they're in a queue) than to just let everyone on the servers and crash them. Plus it creates a frenzy, which is good. Better to keep people waiting and get successful order quickly (once they 'get in'), rather than having time-outs and lost orders.

Didn't realise you people are still waiting, I've been in and had a look around already. Nothing worth buying so it was a bit of a pointless wait, on the plus side I now get straight in past security so I must still have the stamp on my cyber hand.

ETA: Take back the bit about the stamp, turns out it's worn off. It now states "Your queue number is no longer valid
Queue numbers are valid for 10 minutes. Unfortunately, your queue number has now expired. Click the button below to get a new place in the queue."

Yes, I fully understand load balancing (which this is not).

However, telling people that the queue is >1 hour is tantamount to telling customers to fk off.

Poor.

Better to load balance all the web servers with say 100 users each, than to have them crash.
I work for a hosting company - it's what we do now cos servers crashing is bad for the customers reputation...having a nice orderly queue is good (apparently).

Yeah, not having a go at you at all.

As a punter (and IT punter, too) being told to wait for over an hour before being "allowed" to spend your hard-earned?

Well, fk off came the cry.

Have you tried merging in turn?
At the start of the queue or at the point it filters down to one? I tried going all the way to the end, but some woman hit me with her hand bag, and everyone else was calling me names frown

Totally uninterested in this but thought I'd try to look on the Currys site anyway to see what all the fuss is about and surprise surprise up came the queue message . 1 minute to wait this morning so stayed in the queue until the site came up. Now strangely every time I return to the site there's no queue. ..........it's a load of cobblers that draws in the sheep.

Black Friday my arse, ps off America.
