They did that Movember in my local gym. Some guys really suited the look (namely the big, strong-looking ones), the cardio bunnies did not.
I dont get the current beard trend, I can grow one but it drives me mental.
Plus, once over 40 growing a beard just, in most cases, makes you look ancient as it comes out grey or white.
Most of the current beard wearers look a bit daft, scruffy or just old, not many can carry it off where it looks better than not having one.
Is this all some sort of token rebellion as we get more and more dominated by women

Shaving is a ball ache, plus I have sensitive skin which flares up when I shave.
I'm 40; have had a beard since the summer but I did flirt with a beard a couple of years ago, I've always had long side burns and I did the goatee in my twenties so I've always had some type of facial hair.

I don't understand why?Just grow what you can and give it as long as you can be arsed to. If it looks awful get rid, but nothing ventured nothing gained, patience is the hardest hit. Genetics plays a huge part but most people just aren't patient enough and expect a full captain birdseye in a week because some other bloke said he needs to shave 15 times a day.
As for the keeping it tidy carve a neckline when it's grown in sufficiently, other than that just leave it. Keep the rest of you immaculately groomed and it'll offset the fact you look like you've got ants legs stuck to your face at random intervals.

I don't get it either, glad someone else has piped up! No, it doesn't. I regularly shave, it gets irritating before the week is out if I'm being lazy and I look a right state. I have to be presentable for work - even if that means I'm in the office most of the week.
In very, very rare instances a beard gives a man distinction. In virtually all cases (as a spectator) it makes most men look like their daddy didn't teach them how to look after themselves properly or that they are desperately trying to fit in with the latest Hipster trend....
And I say this all the while my close friend has started being a beardy-weirdy too.
Men grow beards for numerous reasons - trends/fashions, to accentuate a weak jawline or chin, 'it suits me', morning efficiency (or laziness!), to 'make up' for baldness.
I'd suggest that the only real reason they are more or less prevalent at any given time, is the rate of acceptance by wimmin. At the moment wimmin continue to see them as hot. Beards have variously been held to signal sexual potency.
Same with pubes - bald will pass.
Enough men will realise, it's good to have something to keep your chin warm, and the full beaver will return!

Just found this thread. It's brilliant. As a life-long masker (well, since late teens and now over 70)and of limited hair strength and follicular vigour I recommend anyone to try it. You won't know unless you do it and you might just be missing out on one of life's natural game changers.
Mine is almost entirely based on vanity in that a weak chin is always improved by camouflage and you never know may just be taken as an indication of an enhanced libido. Maybe.
