Its not really domestic violence if its playful is it.

Just start play fighting with her confused that's what I'd do anyway. Not storm off in a strop.
This FFS.
All this talk of domestic violence and calling in the army is lunacy.
Its like trying to get an injunction out on your wife for cooking you a st dinner.
Madness.
There speaks the voice of reason, rather than one step beyond, like most of you seem to be doing.
Really. Slapping someone in the face when you know they neither want it or like it is an act of violence. When it happens in the home it's domestic. Not sure how it isn't domestic violence.

It may not be serious domestic violence, and it may not be worth reporting to the police, but it is domestic violence and bad enough to make the OP end the relationship.
Calling someone a nasty name is verbal abuse which is also a crime...
It can be, yes.
If your wife ever calls you a name, even in anger, you need to leave her on principle...
Why? I'm not the OP. My relationship and what I am prepared to accept or not isn't at issue.

The OP did not like being slapped. He had told her before. She continued with that behaviour. He left her because he was in an abusive relationship.

I wouldn't call this domestic violence as people will begin to associate the term with your wife playfully slapping you. Which takes away from the real victims IMO.

Twig are you a lawyer/barrister perhaps?
I can see what you're saying, but turn it around - if a bloke slapped his missus and described it as 'playful', would that be seen in the same way?

Women's Aid website said:
What is domestic violence?

There are a number of different definitions of domestic violence. In Women's Aid's view, domestic violence is physical, psychological, sexual or financial violence that takes place within an intimate or family-type relationship and forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour. This can include forced marriage and so-called 'honour' crimes. Domestic violence often includes a range of abusive behaviours, not all of which are, in themselves, inherently 'violent' - hence some people prefer to use the term 'domestic abuse' rather than 'domestic violence'.
Where they say "and forms a pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour.", does this mean that if it's not trying to be controlling, that it isn't technically domestic violence? Is it just 'regular' violence instead then?

It's only playful if the recipient is enjoying it.
Technically it is domestic violence, no doubt. Just as calling your wife a nasty name is verbal abuse, which is also a crime.

As I first suggested, I'd have turned it into a play fight which would have most likely resulted in sex.

I've just seen that the OP broke up with her, hats off to him, it would appear they had more problems than just the slapping!

An act of putting a person in a headlock and rubbing one's knuckles on the other person's head/skull. Painful.
Often a playful gesture of affection when done lightly. wink

The OP is actually mental
>slap< Don't do that, it's fking irritating
>slap< Leaves the house in fury. Returns and finishes with his bird
PH: Good for you. DOmestic violence is domestic violence.

This thread defies reason
How does that make me mental though? If you read the posts I made earlier, she has done this multiple times before, and every time I made it very clear that it was NOT on and that I did not like it. Alas, she did it yet again, so I had enough.

While I'm not saying it was the only reason for the breakup, it was essentially like throwing a huge can of petrol into my well fuelled throughts that were swaying we towards a breakup.

First sentence I'm talking morally, second statement I'm talking legally(In context to someone quoting law).

You really know how to be an awkward arse don't you. Seemingly you pride yourself on it.

So if you'd care to indulge me, am I close with my guess of your profession?

A long time ago a girl slapped me in the face pretty hard for a comment I made that at best that warranted a raised eyebrow.

My older sister and I used to fight quite a lot (and she fought like a man) so I instinctively and extremely quickly slapped the girl in the face.

The ststorm that followed from her friends, her and my own friends was enormous, " you cant do that" "you cant hit a girl" I said sorry, and told her that if you go around hitting people you have to expect that one of them is going to hit you back and you might not like it.
interesting

were you surprised by the ststorm?
Not at all, some blokes see women as the weaker sex and therefore side with them in a situation like this - like a knight in shining armour, protecting the ladies who are... hold on a moment - the aggressor in this whole scenario. So no, not surprised - just disappointed in them.

Newsflash: If you hit someone, then retaliation is a very distinct possibility.

I never saw her again, but I hope she might think twice about assaulting people in future.

Whilst I'm sure being slapped across the face can be playful for some people, the OP has made it perfectly clear that it wasn't playful for him in this situation. Your comment is irrelevant.

I wasn't quoting the law, that was advice from a women's charity (not the bit I quoted but some of it seems quite sexist). And calling your wife a nasty name/verbal abuse is not a criminal offence - you'd have to cause alarm and distress, so shouting and yelling, threats of violence, not just calling her a daft cow.

You could be forgiven for thinking the majority of Pistonheads is a bit timid, and hysterical, but I think it's just the same offenders in every thread and the rest rightfully dismiss stuff like this as bks.
